First Day Of Work
In the morning, as Diana rode the cab on the way to Forrest Research Institute, she made a call to Professor Kenneth Lim.
He didn't pick up so she just left him a voicemail, telling him that she got the job and was thankful for letting her use his name as a Reference.
When she reached the address, she wasn't able to get in right away as she needed to undergo security checks and the regular cabs can't enter the complex. She had to wait outside of the gate as they checked her ID.
As soon as she was cleared to go, she saw a mobile that looked like a golf cart, approaching her.
A man got off and introduced himself to her. "Good morning. I'm Ethan Taylor, Mr. Lucas's Assistant. How do you do Ms. Winchester?"
Diana was shell-shocked that he knows her name and he even personally came to the gate.
"Oh. Yes. I'm doing good. Thank you for asking. How are you?" Diana asked politely in return.
"I'm doing well, thank you. Since today is your first day, I'll be sending you to your new work area, If you could please go in the mobile." Ethan asked, indicating the golf cart-like car.
The way to the Forrest Research Institute's building is a long way walk, these mobiles make it faster to go there. The Institute is a spacious campus. 5 years ago, Lucas's mother, Emma Lovell-Ingram, was the head of the Institute until she chose to retire early when she saw that Lucas was ready to take over.
There is another gate entrance which is for the Forrest Hospital, the buildings on that side are also huge just like in the Institute. The head of the Hospital, Priscilla Lovell-Atkins, will pass it down to her eldest son Sterling Atkins in a few months. Her husband, Mr. Leroy Atkins, is the Vice-President of Lovell Technologies. The head of the family, Mr. Ernest Lovell is still the President of the company. He will directly pass down the company to his grandson, Dwayne Ingram.
At the Institute, the departments are divided according to their focus of study. The same goes for the Hospital, it is divided according to the patients it serves: children, adults, elderly, patients undergoing rehabilitation, and those who have mental health issues. There is also a separate complex for the nursing home for the elderly, which has a gate entrance of its own.
Apart from this, the Forrest Research Institute has another Research facility located in the mountainous area. It is specifically for experiments that deal with biochemicals and other hazardous projects. In that area, Mr. Hugh Ingram, Lucas's father, is the head of the facility.
"Here we are," Ethan said as he got down from the mobile, escorting Diana.
Diana muttered her thanks and followed Ethan inside the building. He led her to an office to register her identification, gave her an ID card and a new lab coat, and other personal protective equipment. He showed her the locker room to where she can keep her belongings, the staff lounge where she can rest, the conference room where they will be conducting meetings, the cafeteria where the employees can take their meals, and the clinic where patients can walk in or set appointments to get their labs done as Out-Patient. Usually, this is where the wealthy families go directly when they want to get their blood chemistry checked without needing hospitalization. The clinic sends out the lab results directly to the patient's chart which will show up electronically online. Their personal physician will also be able to view it and also the hospital wherever the patient will be admitted to.
As they were walking, the other employees can't help but be curious as to why the Assistant of the President is the one personally giving a tour to the new employee. Others have already formed various ideas in their head, that the new employee might be a rich heiress, or a stock holder's daughter, or the woman the Assistant is courting, or even the Assistant's girlfriend.
At this, they can't really believe the latter part as Ethan looked very polite to Diana. They didn't look like lovers at all. It was also hard to determine if Diana was the one interested in Ethan as she also looked polite and proper.
"Who's that with Mr. Taylor?"
"With her outfit, looks to be a new employee."
"What's her background? How come Mr. Taylor is giving her a tour personally?"
"Could be a daughter of one of the board members!"
"Or a relative of our bosses?"
"Possibly. This preferential treatment is hard to ignore."
"But, heck.. she's s so pretty!"
"I know! Her figure is just right. That face though.. it could definitely launch a thousand ships!"
One thing is for sure, the new employee will surely be popular among men.
"Has she settled in?" Lucas asked Ethan as the other came back from taking Diana to the laboratory where she will be working.
"Yes. I have already given her a tour as well." Ethan replied, still maintaining his professional tone.
"Good. Let me know if there is a problem or anything concerning her." Lucas said, nonchalantly, acting as if his heart was fine.
"Understood," Ethan answered. He understood that his boss just doesn't want what happened to Diana in her previous workplace to repeat in their Institute. "Also, Mr. Cook and Ms. Holt have both been suspended from work until the case is finished."
"Just suspended, huh. Investigate the manager. With his decision to fire Diana without even going through proper investigation, I am almost certain he has done something similar before. Especially in favor of female employees who show an interest towards him." Lucas stated coldly.
"Yes. I have already asked an investigator to do that. I'll let you know soon." Ethan said. Lucas is increasingly impressed with his Assistant. He already knows his boss like the back of his hand.
"Good. Alright. That's it for now." Lucas nodded. He waved his hand, dismissing him.
Just then, someone knocked on the door to the office. Ethan opened it and saw Tamara Silva, the manager at the laboratory where Diana is assigned.
