****Completed, but under revision.**** ***SUPER SLOW BURN MATURE 18+*** After struggling her way through university, Mina Harlow, a top tier graduate (and literal genius), with the aspiration of lifting her family out of poverty, was still living in the slums, taking odd jobs to earn a living. All of her hard work had been for nothing and her life is cast into turmoil because she offended the wrong Miss from a prominent family. Desperate to for her next source of income, Mina aligns herself with the wrong people, and finds herself amid several conspiracies that keep becoming more and more confounded by misunderstandings. She is mistaken for a spy, by one of the most influential families in the country and held captive as the confusion, mishaps and misunderstandings build up all around her. Under the extreme circumstance, Mina is thrown into despair, hatred and love all that the same time, but will the experience break her or make her ‘better?’ (This story is set in a fictional, modern day patriarchal society on the brink of a shift public opinion on the 'role' of the woman.) Excerpt: "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm stupid," Mina replied. The man laughed sarcastically. "I disagree. I think you are a very smart girl." "Being smart does not mean you can not be stupid." Who told her she was a genius anyway? ***THIS IS AN ADULT STORY WITH AN ADULT THEME. THERE IS VIOLENCE AND IMPLIED VIOLENCE. THERE IS ROMANCE IN THIS STORY, BUT IT IS NOT EXACTLY A LOVE STORY. ***

Chapter 385: Too Accommodating

Ian knew he was supposed to be trusting of Mina, but he could not bring himself to believe her words. Even with his current wealth, if given the ability to steal the account information of anyone with a significant amount of money, he would, without a doubt use it against them.

That fact alone made Ian believe that Mina was doing as Zane had said, she was playing him toward a goal. If he needed any more suspicion, he had come into her home, closed in on her, and she barely reacted to his proximity. Mina was behaving in a passive manner, even handing him her device without being asked.

Ian was not diluted enough to believe Mina enjoyed being near him, or that she liked him that close, because he knew she wanted nothing to do with him. That meant she was enduring, and if she was willing to put up with his clear violation of personal space; she was planning something big.

"Come with me," President Lee ordered. He reached out to pull Mina by her wrist, but she planted her feet.

"Where? Why? I'm not dressed appropriately." Ian scanned Mina's body and felt that he had not had enough time to appreciate how beautiful she looked. Now that he could freely drink in her visuals without Lisa's piercing gaze on him, he swallowed Mina's appearance whole.

The curves of Mina's body seemed unrealistic and perhaps if she had been taller, they would not have been so alluring. There was a metal cuff around her waist, and it drew attention to how small it was, not that it was a terrible thing. Her breasts were perfect, and the way the fabric of the dress she was wearing wrapped between them made Ian want her all the more.

Mina's body was like a perfect hourglass, and Ian knew it was part of the reason so many men fawned over her. He did not care about those men though, he feared men like Cylus Rue, who had gone above and beyond for Mina; learning her likes and dislikes and softening her heart along the way. He was almost positive that there was no way she would have forgiven him if he had left her behind, no matter the reason, but somehow, he knew she had already forgiven Cylus.

"You look fine. Now follow me," he ordered again. Mina muttered something under her breath while kicking off her slippers and slipping back into the heels that she had been wearing. Ian could not help but to stare at how much sexier they made her appear.

"President Lee, if this has something to do with Terrence, please leave the man alone. He is probably in bed by now," she said with her arms folded.

"Twenty-three doesn't sleep."

"No, he used to not sleep. I made him a schedule." Ian's face bunched up and he raised his phone to call Doctor Witt. He was surprised to hear that Mina was right. "What did you do to him? How did you get him to respond to your orders?"

"Orders?" Mina asked. "Rich people are really something else. I did not order him to do anything. I gave him a suggestion with scientific backing. He could not poke holes in my argument, so he relented."

"And I am to assume he just told you about the phone?"

"No, he didn't just tell me. I asked him," Mina admitted. Lying would not get her the trust she needed.

"Mina, don't you think you have been a little too accommodating lately?"

"To whom?" She asked. Her face looked baffled, and Ian could not tell if she was acting or not. Choosing to trust Mina and not his friend, Ian changed the subject.

"How much longer do you have on your contract with Matthew Porter?"

"Because I took too many days off, my last day has been pushed to a week after Miss Lisa's grand opening ceremony. I know we had an agreement for thirty days, but technically, I haven't worked for the man for thirty full days." President Lee made a sound of understanding. He gently took Mina's phone from her, taking advantage of the fact that she allowed him to be so close. He dismissed the idea of going to visit twenty-three, but he would still ask the man about it later.

"Zane told me what happened," Ian started to say.

"President Lee no need to bring it up. My agreement is with you, not your sister. Besides, she moved, didn't she?" Ian looked as if Mina had told him something he was unaware of. "She didn't, did she?" Confused, Ian handed Mina a new device, promising her that it was not tampered with, which was a lie. He then left her apartment calling his sister to figure out what she was doing.

Luna had told him she would be leaving Pan, but he assumed it was for an assignment, not to run away and hide from her problems.

"Hello," Luna greeted groggily.

"Did you move?" Ian asked.

"I told you was-"

"One week. I want you back in Pan within that time."

"Ian you can't-"

"All else aside, who do you think will help with Ellie and Nan? Lisa?" Ian paused allowing his sister to reply but she said nothing. "Exactly, now use this time to get over your heartache and get back to the country. If that Tavin idiot does not see your worth, you are the one who is lucky." Luna felt tears well in her eyes. She had never had her brother talk to her in a caring tone or fashion, and it helped sway her.

"I will return when I feel confident. Is that okay?" Luna asked, knowing her brother would agree.

Mina arrived at work courtesy of James, who had yet to convince Emma to forgive him. Because James only had to follow Mina around when she was out with people who could not protect her, he was able to spend most of his time trying to appeal to the woman.

When Mina stepped onto the set, it was not just unusually quiet, but it was surprisingly empty. She quickly texted James, sensing an issue, because she had spoken to her boss shortly before she arrived, and he had not cancelled the shooting.

Even if director Porter had cancelled the filming for the day, he would have called back or Chris would have contacted her, but no one reached out.

It did not take long for James to appear by Mina's side, and he too urged the woman not to move until she contacted her boss again.

Mina was unaware, but James had already reached out to President Lee, warning the man that something was wrong at Mina's place of work.

Director Porter answered his phone, and although he was trying to sound natural, he seemed afraid. Before Mina could ask, someone else spoke into the phone.

"Is this Miss Harlow?" The man asked in a thick broken accent. "Based on silence. I think it is. Please, join your friends in B-shack." Mina looked at James who shook his head. "Or you not come, but it's bad idea." The man ended the call without giving Mina a chance to respond.

"Don't go," James said. "It's just me and we don't know how many people he has with him."

Mina's phone buzzed with a text notification. She opened it to reveal a picture of the staff, but what startled her was the appearance of Jay and Mary. There was no reason for the women to be there, and out of everyone, they looked the most afraid.

"Jay is there; I can't just leave her." Not knowing what else to do, James followed Mina. Jay was Emma's sister, and if something happened, he would feel responsible.
