Warcaster Of Misfortune

In a world where reality intertwines with a virtual realm, a man finds himself thrust into a game he once dismissed—an intricate web of challenges, quests of extreme difficulty, and encounters with creatures of overwhelming power. Fate, it seems, has a mischievous sense of humor, as our protagonist becomes the unwilling pawn in a cosmic game of chance. Will he find the peace he so desperately desires, or is he destined to navigate the realms of life and death in an eternal dance orchestrated by unseen hands? In this story, where even death may not be the end, the quest for serenity becomes a thrilling odyssey through the uncharted territories of fate. ------- Writer's note: If you guys are reading this story then I must confess that I am both proud and embarrassed. As long as I can remember, I have had this great love for the litrpg and virtual reality genre (yes, sadly the motivation is lit by Sword Art Online). Still, over the years I find myself reading more and more about real fantasy, with a logical plot and realistically written characters, this story is my sole attempt to get back to my old book taste, a webnovel of non-stop fighting, lots of rpg numbers, less descriptive graph, mostly conversation and sound effect.

7 days later.

Congratulation You have finished the basic Training

You have gained the following in this period:

+40 Strength

+40 Agility

+40 Vitality

+40 Stamina

+20 Fame

+100 Health

Hell finally...ended. I managed to finish it.....I also gained a couple other stats as well.

Endurance

Reduces the physical damage enemies can inflict on you and increases your total health by a small amount. Stat increases automatically when you take damage from melee attacks. You cannot distribute level up bonuses to this stat.

Sustenance

You are likely to use less stamina in action. You are prohibited from distributing stat level up points to this stat.

Fighting Spirit

You can call on superhuman strength temporary, or bring weaker monsters to their knees with the force from your eyes along. You are prohibited from distributing level up bonus points to this stat and it rises spontaneously depending on the avatar's actions, especially if you fight monsters for a long time or often confront monsters stronger than your current level.

For a whole week I kept on hitting the damn thing...without any kind of food or water. I think I blacked out after the first day and regained conciousness once in a while....what do I do now?

The contraption that was holding me came loose and dropped me on the floor. I thought I saw a shadow outside of the door but that must be my imagination again.

Some time later I awoke on a soft warm bed. Wait am I still in the church of Freya? Wow the treatment I get is so different from Warlic and Crysero.

"So your awake Eden."

I looked to my right and found Vin sitting next to the bed I was in. Wait how long was he there for? Don't tell me.....he did something....

"What's with that look. Hahahahaha. You have been out cold for a full day. But you finished the training just in time. Notice that the collar on your neck is gone."

I started to touch the area around my neck. It was gone. But I still can't remember what happened in the last week which concerned me greatly.

"Anyway Warlic said that you can ask Rag to teleport you back to the tower to continue your training."

Ah..there's still more....

"Also you don't have to go immediately. You could meet Dan for a bit. You gets lonely you know."

Ah it has been a while since I saw Dan. I wonder if anything happened.

"Thanks but where exactly am I?"

"Your in the church of Freya of course."

"But which town?"

"Tellap Town."

"Oh, no wonder you know those two."

I ended back here again. Well time to find my way back to the Sleeping Sheep Centre.

I thanked Vin and walked out of the Church doors. There was a line of players waiting to get blessed by the priest. They had a shocked expression when they saw me walk casually out of the church and I don't blame them. Not many players had a close relationship with any kind of church unless they did they a big favour.

"Who is that person?"

"Who knows. Someone Important?"

"No it can't be. She has the default armor on."

"Maybe its because she's a beauty."

"Yeah. It doesn't concern us."

The players in the line were gossiping about me. Not that I cared. I tried to find a familiar landmark to use as guidance to the Library. It looked like I was in the East side of the town but how far North am I to the library? The library was located in the south east part of the town and was pretty easy to spot as long you excluded the fact that the town was uneven in height.

Eventually I found one of the marketplaces I passed by before. They were selling some fried meat and I was REALLY hungry. Drawn in my the scent I immediately asked for 3 servings and paid 5 silver in total. I knew I was ripped off but I cut in line and the guy serving pitied me for my wolf like eyes on the meat.

I think a coupe of people complained but the guy serving threatened to not sell to them and they all shut up. After my hunger was gone I immediately went to the library without any kind of distractions getting into my way. There I saw Dan sitting and reading again like it was no one's business.

"Hey Dan!"

"Eden!"

Dan looked at me with surprise.

"I thought you were at the church of Freya being experimented on with the new training routine"

Wait...he knew. He knew and left me there.

"Dan you're an asshole."

"Why?"

"You left me there to die...."

Tears started to flow out of my eyes. It wasn't intentional but the thought of this person leaving me to them hurt me a lot.

"Now Now. I designed it so you won't die."

Wait. HE DESIGNED IT!!!!

I prepared a lightning spell with the intention of zapping him a bit in my right hand and with a smile said, "What did you say?"

"I designed it."

"Why?"

"The church asked me to."

"Why?"

"I was interested in the design and improved it."

"Why?"

"They gave me money."

"Okay now die."

I used my lightning bolt spell on minimum power. As Dan was being zapped by me his eyes rolled back and his body stood still as he was being electrocuted. After a while I stopped and he fell unconscious on the floor still twitching a bit. Although I wanted him to die I intentionally reduced my power output so he would learn his lesson. Never cross me. Ever.

"I should go to Rag now...."

With that I left Dan on the ground and headed to the mage guild. Upon getting there Rag greeted me with a very large smile.

"How did the investigation go?"

"Fine."

"Give me the details."

I spent the next 10 minutes explaining what happened during my stay there including the fact that the inhabitants of the tower seemed to be of another world.

"Interesting. Interesting. I should contact this Warlic later for a discussion."

"Yeah Yeah. Hurry up and teleport me there."

"Oh I can't do that."

A frown appeared on my face. He did it before, why can't he do it again?

"Why?"

"Because the co-ordinates of the teleportation are now different than before. If what you said before is true than trying to teleport there is a very bad idea."

"Is there any way to counter this?"

"Yes! If there was something that was originally at the tower than I can directly...what's on your wrist?"

"Oh this? Something used for training apparently."

"How very interesting. I feel some mana flowing out of it constantly....what exactly does this do?"

"Umm....helps me control my mana and restricts the amount of mana I can use in a spell."

"I see I see. Now let me examine it."

"No."

"Yes you will if you want to get to that tower. Unless you want to take a 3 day trip there on foot."

I allowed Rag to analyse the bracelet on my arm. It was very awkward since he kept on saying oh and ah every once in a while but he eventually said, "Seems that I can teleport you to the tower. The mana coming from this bracelet originated in the tower so if I adjust the formula..."

Rag did something to the teleportation spell and said, "Oh I forgot to give you the reward fort he quest before."

Quest Complete: Investigate the mysterious tower

Investigation done. Rag will give you the reward.

The completion of the quest didn't even level me up....the reward better be good. Rag took out a bag of some sort and threw it at me. I caught it and heard a metallic sound. I opened it and found that it was pieces of gold coins. I counted it and it added up to 100 exactly.

"The reward seems high for the quest you know..."

"Oh that includes the payment for being a test subject for the church."

So he was involved as well. When I was about to prepare a spell Rag immediately said, "Don't. IF you do that then you can't get back to the tower."

Calming down to his words I postponed my plan on torturing him.

"Now hurry up and do whatever in the tower and REPORT back!"

A magic circle appeared under me and the feeling of the teleportation returned.
