chapter 2 -- the trial

---five years later---

"NUMBER 335" yelled a deep and grizzled voice from the examination room

"time to meet the maker" said Keith as he's got up from his seat

ask Keith opened the door and entered he look at the man he was tall and built like a mountain "you 335" said the man ask he looked back at Keith

"yes sir" said Keith while he walked to the chair

"sit down and shut up" said the man as he pulled out a small stack of papers

Keith sat down and kept his mouth shut not wanting to annoy the man

"Keith Winfull son of Jasmine Winfull and Andrew Winfull trained in magic by the guildmaster ruin also know as the wicked wind you have quite the reputation kid" said the man while never taking his eyes off the papers

"thank you sir" said Keith with a slight smile and confidence

"dont get cocky kid everyone who signs up to the Kings Academy is the same way" said the man as he looked at Keith

"I know this sir" said Keith while looking back at the man

"good and the name is James Ironfall sir makes me feel old" said James as he looked threw the papers

"James Ironfall hero of the west first to slay a teir five beast alone, you were cursed by the 13th princess of the demon realm to age the more you fights" said Keith as he waited for James reaction

"you know your stuff kid" said James as he looked at Keith with a look of surprise on his face

Keith looked at James unable to hide his smile "thank you James"

"dont act like buttering me will help you" said James as he checked a few boxes on the papers

"Allright let's see your strongest spell" says James as he stands and walks to the left wall

"but James wouldn't it damage the building" said Keith with a confused face

as Keith said this a rune appeared on the wall creating a black and purple portal "that's what this is for its know as a mana void it absorbs any magic and stores it in those crystals" said James as he moved to the side

Keith stood up and walked towards the void "that makes much more sense"

"now whenever your ready" said James

Keith took a deep breath and stuck his hands out infront of his suddenly a red rune appeared in front of his he concentrated more and black inlays could be seen on the rune, beads of sweat appeared on Keith's forehand as he put more magic out causing another smaller rune appear in front of the other "piecing flame" as Keith said these words the back rune shot a black flame into the smaller one causing the flame to focus into a beam, when the beam hit the void it filled three crystals instantly and began to slowly fill the other's

'so he uses a flame focus rune to turn his magic into a beam with enough power to take down a tier 3 beast in one shot this kid is impressive indeed though James as he looked at the crystals to see how many filled

suddenly Keith dropped to one knee "sorry James thats all I got" said Keith while panting heavily

"here drink this" said James as he handed Keith a blue vial

Keith drank the liquid inside the vial knowing it was a mana potion "thank you James"

James smiled "Allright kid head home you'll get a letter it two weeks"

as Keith got up and walked out of the room he couldn't help but feel like he failed
