The darkness was suffocating. It pressed in from all sides, thick and oppressive, wrapping around Elena like a vice. She struggled to breathe, her chest tight, her limbs heavy as though trapped in quicksand. In her dream, the familiar scent of smoke filled the air, acrid and choking. The faint flicker of flames danced in the distance, the blaze of an inferno that she had once tried to outrun.
But there was no escape.
