“Is that the only reason he picked you?” Evan asks.
“No. I don’t trust humans, and I’m strong enough to take one out if they’re a danger to the town. No offense to you, but Nanook asked to bring a stranger here, a human doctor. We had to be careful,” Rene says softly.
“But you believe I’m not up to no good now?” Evan asks. He doesn’t expect perfect and complete trust from Rene, but he’s hoping that, even though he’s only been here for three days, Rene might trust him a little.
“Maybe I’m a fool, but the moment I saw you talking to those children in the hospital, I believed you were here to help them,” Rene says firmly.
“Good. Which speaking of, we should eat breakfast and get to work.”
