I was indeed a sage class; I don't understand the confusion or what I did wrong. I look towards my dad and ask, "I picked the sage class, who have been known to work along naturalist here. What's wrong with that pick because I genuinely don't know?"

He finally turns to me, his expression blank and unreadable. " You've been taking the history lessons the with the tutor, right? He would have told you about what really happened 40 years ago?"

'What really happened?' I'm missing too much information to know what's going on but even without Acute Mind I can tell this is just a misunderstanding between me and my father.

"Dad, I was only taught that the elves were just having birthing problems and the reason wasn't given to me. I choose the sage class because I thought it would be beneficial to everyone. I wasn't trying to offend anyone but if I have , I apologize. Now please, tell me what's going on."

I felt that I had nothing to apologize for, but the situation called for me to humble myself momentarily and that's the best choice. My dad stares at me for a minute, processing what was just saidm He approaches me and places and hand on my shoulder.

" I believe you son." He lets out a long sigh then explains, "

35 years ago, when your mom and I were just young kids at the time, tensions between humans and elves weren't at the best of terms.

Elves started feeling like they were the superior race, which led to disagreements. Didn't help that the Elven Queen herself decided to hold a tournament to settle the argument.

We sent our best champions, among them a sage named Kealen.

I was told his blessings and curses could contest god contenders and was the best of any human on this continent.

As the tournament progressed, it became apparent that cheating was taking place and each challenge was set to be in the elves favor.

While many feared call out the Elven Queen for cheating, Kealen stood and challenged her son Prince Aenan to a duel.

Prince Aenan agreed ready to show the Elven might, on the terms of knockout and no killing.

Kealen fought ferociously and took it too far by striking down Prince Aenan killing him in defiance to the Elven Queen and fled.

Enraged the Queen seized anyone blood related to Kealen, torturing and killing them.

The threat of war was in the air, but not all humans supported Kealen and his actions, my father was the leader of those who wanted to continue living alongside elves.

A meeting was called to negotiate an agreement. The Elves decided to stand down if Kealen was brought to them. Kealen took his sage supporters who were called Kealenist and started rebellions against the Elven Empire.

The humans who supported the elves stood against him as a civil war broke out to apprehend Kealen.

After two years of fighting the Elven Queen decided that if fighting continued for too long, threats from overseas would be a possibility, and sent Elven reinforcements to help their human supporters.

Syndra's mom was the leader of the reinforcements sent to capture Kealen.

After three more long years of fighting, Kealen and his followers were backed into a corner. Instead of giving up, the Kealenist decided to have a last stand.

Word came that they were starting a ritual with a vile curse and we rushed into a fight to stop it.

Using their own lives to fuel the ritual, we attacked the main caster Kealen who fought us off. We found that we were too late, the curse took effect.

In Kealens final breath, he told us that Elves could now no longer have children.

Researching the effect, we determined that he was right and that from that day forward two elves could no longer have children with each other.

Elves could have children with other races, but they can only guarantee one child.

After that day any sage was either killed or captured and never heard from again, so you can see how you just messed up Eric."

Mistakes were indeed made. This was a project set up to remedy human and elf relations as well and fixing the elf population.

I was expected as the grandson of the two heroes who stood against Kealen, to know this, and by picking sage as a class I'm basically spitting in their faces.

Not only that but I've messed up anything that Ferngrow currently stands for. "What's your plan dad?"

He looks at me with a solemn expression. "We'll have to step down in disgrace and turn ourselves over to the mercy of the Elven Queen.

Pray that we get banished, whereas she'll definitely try to kill you. I have a favor left with a sage who didn't side with Kealen who lives in seclusion. I could hide you with him to buy time till we figure something out."

My Acute Mind racked my brain from both my previous life and this one to find the best solution. After 30 seconds, a plan came together. "Dad, what if instead of everyone going down because of my mistake, you just killed me?"

He froze at that suggestion, "Are you fucking mad? It took your mom and I 15 years to birth you, I'd rather get executed than watch you die."

"Sorry dad, I should elaborate on what I was suggesting. What if you disowned me from the family, then sentenced me to death yourself.

Go through with the execution but instead of actually killing me it's a fake and you still send me into hiding with your sage associate.

I change my identity, clear the Ferngrow name, you don't get that harsh of a punishment for your disowned sons' actions, everything works out.

Silence permeates the room, my father contemplating the plan. Finally, he says, "No one's tried that before. The Queens influence makes that hard but not impossible.

I have a good idea on how to hide you as well. Eric, I'm a failure of a father to let this happen to my own flesh and blood. If we could swap places I wouldn't even hesitate."

"Don't worry dad, I believe you." A sad smile is on his face as he opens the door behind him and shouts, "Guards arrest this fool."

I don't resist as the guard roughly grab me. I take one last look at my father who is wiping a tear away as they haul me off.

As the guards throw me into the city prison, I can't help but think, 'Maybe I should have told my mom what I was picking beforehand.'
