Chapter 3- Ending of the Prequel

I'm pretty sure the college experience is different for others depending on who you ask, but college for me sucked.

As I thought, I wasn't properly prepared for college. None of the scholarships or grants I applied for got approved, so I was at college without any money.

I also found out that my parents applied for student loans in my name to help me afford college in the first place.

I confronted my parents about this, and their response was to completely abandon me, saying they're going to show me what unsupportive parents actually look like.

Derek, my roommate, must have overheard me having a conversation about my situation and capitalized immediately on my weakness.

He came and offered to buy all my books in exchange for doing his work and helping him look good in front of any girls.

I actually thought it was a pretty good deal, books were expensive and I thought a guy like Derek wasn't in that difficult of a major.

I ended up getting the shit end of the stick because Derek was apparently trying to get his PHD.

Also, his idea of help him look good in front girls was different from mine as he just basically did things to me to try to impress the girls.

The only benefit to the deal was that Derek knew where the best parties were and often took me with him when I have the time.

The party we went to tonight was different from the others. It was held by off-campus students which meant drinks were involved and louder music.

Derek had was wasted with a girl in each arm, while I was just trying to vibe.

It was difficult because I was having a bad day. While trying to do Derek's work mine has fallen to a concerning levels.

Enough to have the teacher pull me to the side and tell me step it up. So the drink in my hand, the loud music, and the random people bumping into me just fouled my mood more.

I began searching for Derek to sway him into leaving early but he was nowhere to be found.

After asking around I found out that Derek already left with the girls he had to another party, leaving me to walk back over twenty blocks back to campus. Seeing that I wasn't about to get another ride back, I decided maybe I needed this walk to think.

While walking I couldn't help but think about how I keep getting taken advantage of.

Asking myself what I'm doing so to deserve struggling as I currently am. Thinking about how unfair it is to be forced to do something you hate, and there's nothing you can do about it.

As I was brooding, I took a turn too early walking down to the "wrong" neighborhood. I also didn't notice the footsteps rapidly catching up to me.

I did notice, however, the barrel of a gun poking uncomfortably into my back. My hands shot up instantly. I panicked a little as I realized where I was and the situation I currently was in.

"Give me your wallet and don't try no cute shit."

My panic died down a little as I realized I barely had anything to rob in the first place.

I slowly reached into my back pocket and took out my wallet for the robber to take behind me, which he snatched from my hand. A few seconds go by, and I hear,

"Bruh all you have is twenty-five dollars and a Subway gift card?" In his anguish he crashes the back end of the gun into my head. As I fall to the ground seeing stars I hear, "Broke motherfuckers these days."

I lay there waiting for my vision to return as I try to think about what else I lost.

While losing the subway gift card meant I won't be eating the next couple of days, I remembered I did have a debit card, although there wasn't any money on it. I do remember I had some additional cards as well.

Oh wait. I jumped up at my stupidity.

I had my social security card in my wallet. With the whole situation with my parents and needing it for college related documents, I brought it with me but couldn't find a good place to hide it in my room.

I desperately needed to sit somewhere. Looking around I saw a construction zone and started towards it.

I sat down on one of the stone barriers next to some crates they had stacked on top of each other.

I was three states from home with a missing social security card, getting it replaced was almost impossible with how my schedule was.

Frustrated I punched a crate near me, which caused a chain reaction of crates hitting other crates. On top of the crates we're huge metal beams that started to drop towards me. Hearing the metal beams falling I began to try to move to safety but paused.

'What's the point in dodging these?' I questioned myself.

My future right now was eventually dropping out of college which would mean I would have no home to go back to. Before the metal beams reached me, I closed my eyes and let out one last prayer to every god I knew that this wouldn't be painful.
