Chapter 11- Makings of a Monster

Garbhan focuses back up, "Alright well now that you know how the mana is supposed to flow through your body, you'll have to practice everyday repeating that flow until it becomes natural to remember.

Higher level mages have it committed to memory allowing them to skip the chants on their spells.

Till you can achieve that level, I'll be teaching you the chants so you can use magic without the mana flow for each blessing and curse you currently have."

Sorry Garbhan, but I remember those shows of those magic users striking ridiculous poses and saying stupid chants.

So I won't be chanting shit if I don't have to.

Thanks to Acute Mind, I already remembered the correct flow, so I focus on the training dummy and cast Enhance Defense Tier 1.

The dummy begins to glow a light blue. Garbhan stops his lecture mid sentence and looks at the dummy astonished once again. Looking at me he yells,

"Impossible! There's no way you figured it out that fast, that had to have been pure luck."

Waving him off I say nonchalantly, "Relax Garbhan, I legit just did the correct pathing just seconds prior, how could I forget it?"

Saying that sets him off, " Relax? RELAX? You should be struggling for at least a year and a half on just these two steps alone.

It's the whole point of me telling you take the day off because I knew how much you were going to struggle.

At the rate you're learning your basically..." He trails off as his face pales, "The Queen must never know of how capable you are. You have no idea the lengths she'll go to end your life if she finds out.

You'll remind her too much of Kealen."

Curious about this particular subject I inquire, "My dad mentioned you didn't join Kealen, have you ever met him?" Garbhan looks off into the distance.

"Yeah, I was his childhood friend growing up, I was there for it all. I picked the sage class 5 years prior to him and the way he surpassed me with how he used his blessings and curses was a sight to behold.

Sages are supposed to have set spells, but it seemed like he was creating his own. I would go as far to say that he was the best sage to walk this world.

Therefore, I was the first to notice his change, I have no idea what the elves did to him but one day his hatred for elves just arose.

Enough about him, let's get back on to your training."

As he turns back to me, I notice the sadness leaving his eyes to a blank expression.

I really need to figure out the proper questions to not make people sad anytime I talk to them.

"So, I'm sure you've noticed by now that Sages have no offensive skills, yes? That is unfortunately the drawback of our class.

We instead have to wield weapons or staffs if we want to do any damage.

Using those keeps us from managing our curses and blessings, which is why we're the support role, to let others handle the damage for us.

But it doesn't hurt to figure out what weapon you'll want to use."

I did notice three days ago the weapon mastery skill and have wondered what I was going to use.

I was leaning towards a katana, or a scythe but the latter was too inconvenient to wield and large to carry.

Thinking about my two blessings it would make sense to use a sword or small blade to get in to do damage then get out, all while avoiding getting hit.

I wouldn't mind using daggers since I would be the support anyway.

"How about daggers?"

"Daggers, eh? Weird choice, most Sages go for staffs or maces.

Of course, when they pick staffs it's because Sage is their subclass, and they already have another mage skill as their first class.

So, next time I go to the city we'll get you some daggers. I'm going to be honest with you, this is all I can teach you now.

I didn't expect you to figure this all out in one day, this was supposed to be a year and a half worth of work.

I can't teach you anything else until you raise your sage class level, so that'll be all until you make that breakthrough.

I'm not going to pressure you or remind you to train, you can set your own pace.

But I will tell you that your current enemy is the entire Elven Empire, and we can't say for sure that your plan worked."

He didn't have to tell me not to sit on my ass, although I had no way of knowing, I was sure that the Queen had some powerful backers.

If I was planning on living, I had to get stronger. As Garbhan walked away I started spamming Enhance Speed Tier 1 on the training dummy.

When Garbhan entered his cottage, he quickly closes the door and collapses, his back propped on the door as he begins to profusely sweat.

"Abin, what kind of monster did you make for him to have so much mana at a young age.

When I showed him the mana flow technique, he didn't even realize that he was draining me of mana then returning it. I felt like I was going to explode of mana overdose.

And the speed he learns magic." Garbhan peeked at Eric training in the distance from a corner of the window trembling.

"I should have never doubted you, Ostrak. He is definitely the one we need."
