Chapter 10- Teach You a Thing or Two

I jumped out of my sleep when I felt the carriage jolt to a stop.

The cloaked man opened the door and let me out, pulling down his hood revealing a black-haired elf.

We're currently in a clearing with a brick cottage that had a chimney, a small garden, and a stable.

I grabbed the bag I assumed was my clothes and essentials from out the back of the carriage.

"Here's where I call home Young Master Eric. My name is Garbhan and I'm here to train you to being a Sage.

You've been through a lot so you can take today off and we can begin training tomorrow morning.

Your room is upstairs, third door on the left. My room is just beyond the stairs. If you need anything just give a holler."

I start heading towards the cottage when I hear Garbhan shout out,

"I would also advice to not travel into the forest without me, they can be really unforgiving to strangers."

Didn't have to bother telling me that, there's too many stories in my old life about people disappearing in the woods and never returning.

Somehow, I stumble up the stairs to where he destinated my room and just drop the bags on the floor.

Flopping on the bed, I have no problems drifting to sleep despite just having a nap.

I wake to the sun beaming on my face, with drool coming down the side of my mouth.

Standing up stretching, I strangely feel even more refreshed after sleeping here.

Coming downstairs I see Garbhan has cooked a breakfast of eggs, toasted bread, berries and a fruit juice.

"Don't know how you've been eating till now, but this is how it'll be from here on. Can't afford to make a banquet every morning you know."

I would love to go back to the way I've been spoiled in the mansion but comparing to how it was in the prison to this, I could adjust pretty fine.

I'll be here for two years so it's better to stop reminiscing over things that were and just focus on the now.

After eating I attempted to wash the dishes, but Garbhan stopped me, "I can handle a few pots and pans, you go and take a look around. I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the place, I'll be a long shortly."

Walking around the first thing I check out is the garden.

Here on Iankia, elves and the humans that live with them were vegetarians, with only the few beast-kin that reside here eating meat.

At first, I complained but since the vegetables are the same as my old world, I got used to them.

Here in his garden, he had carrots, potatoes, onions, and spinach growing here. He also had a grape yard with my favorite, apple trees.

Next, I walk to look at the stables where he had three horses, one black and the rest brown.

Deciding that's basically all there is to see, I find a reasonable spot away from the cottage and not too close to the forest to practice magic.

I know Garbhan said to take today off, but I've waiting for days now to use magic. Mentally, I bring up the status

Garbhan must have a blessing going that helps you sleep, which explains how I was so refreshed this morning.

From the spells I have, I can only cast spells on myself for the moment and decide I can use a speed boost.

Having no clue what I was doing, I extended my hands and focus on myself and mentally shout, Enhanced Speed Tier 1, and as expected nothing happens.

I hear a chuckle behind me, "Thought I told you to take the day off."

"I was but I've been waiting 3 years to use magic."

He sighs, " Fine, let me teach you a thing or two. "He heads into the house and comes out with a training dummy.

"Us Sages are powerful mages that use blessings and curses of various effects to disrupt the enemy.

If you were to form a party, Sages would fall into the Support role, but have been known to also be the Damage.

It's funny that you picked Sage as your starting class, as most use it as a subclass."

"Subclass? We get a second class? When?"

"Well most don't pick a subclass because it's a lot of work but when you level your first class to 25 the Crystal offers a subclass."

Why am I only just learning this, my tutor fucking sucked at teaching.

"As a mage you can cast spells depending on how large your mana pool is.

Every mage has a set amount of mana but there are various techniques to increase the size.

Sages are different from Elementalist and Naturalist because our spells stay active for however long we need it to.

But we can only have one of the same blessings on the same target.

To cast you need to say the necessary chant, while letting your mana flow from you.

Before we attempt any spells, you will need to learn how your mana feels so you don't use too much or too little when casting.

Come here and reach out your hands."

I followed his instructions, and he placed his hands on top of mine.

"Don't attempt to repeat this, if you don't know what you're doing, you could kill yourself. This method will teach you the proper flow of mana. Hopefully."

"What do you mean hopefully?"

"Well, if you can't understand it this way, we'll have to use a cruder approach. But no worries, you look like a smart kid, I'm sure you'll figure it out."

With that being said, his body began to glow a lime green, outlining him, traveling around his body till it reached his hands.

Upon the glow making contact, I felt a rush, much like drinking an energy drink but twice as better, come over me.

"Let it pass throughout your entire body, mana is much like water. It flows where you guide it, but take care. Mana is the life force of everything, therefore can be considered to be life itself.

Being forceful with mana can cause complications, some worse than death. "

That's information I needed to know before attempting this Garbhan.

I couldn't say it though, as I had to focus on guiding the mana through my body.

Taking Garbhans' flow as an example, I let it the mana enter from my left hand and travel up to my head.

From the head I let the mana travel back downwards where I almost make the mistake of letting back it out my right hand, but notice his mana flows past down his chest.

Hoping that I didn't just screw up, I correct the mana path and let it flow past my chest down to my left foot.

I continue the path up from my left foot to my groin then back down to my right foot.

Letting the mana flow from up from my right foot it goes up my right side then back out my right hand back to Garbhan.

A notification box pops up in my mind.

[Unlocked Skill: Mana Control LVL 1- Reduces mana spent on spells, keeping you from tiring out faster. Passive: Increases mana pool by 5%]

Nice. But now I recall that I don't remember seeing a mana pool for myself in the status.

Garbhan mentioned that we had a set mana pool but I don't even know what mine is.

About to ask Garbhan about it, I pause seeing his astonished sweaty face he's giving right now. Oh no, what did I do now?

"When you almost messed up there I was going to reverse the flow to keep you from hurting yourself but then you went and completed the flow.

No one's ever done that on their first try, even Kealen took a month to figure it out and even that's impressive. Well good job Eric, good job indeed."

Oh, I did a good this time, after screwing up the ceremony, I was determined not to mess up anything ever again.
