Synopsis

Vicky attends college for the first time and on her first day she makes friends . During the first semester , a lot happens resulting in one of her friends Vanessa to drop out of school

The young ladies try by all means to survive from peer pressure as well as abuse , things get twisted when one of her friends also falls pregnant for one of their lecturers who denied responsibility and move out of the country living the young lady in a hard time

Now the question is will she keep the baby ? And how will she be able to balance both motherhood and studies at the same time?

CHAPTER ONE

College ! Every high school student's paradise and dream home , Vicky quickly got out of bed and made her way to the place she loved the most but which some might not want to enter at all , that place is the bathroom .

Yawning and walking with joy , she sang a chorus whilst she was in the shower .

" Hurry up or you are going to be late on your first day !" Shouted her mother Mrs Fernandez .

" Come on ma , this ain't high school anymore !" She shouted back , Vicky was always Mrs Fernandez' pride and joy , the lass never disappointed her mother , she always made sure to make her proud and for that the single mother and daughter were the best happy family one could ever come across , Vicky made the preparations to college and it almost took her two hours just to put on a light makeup and a floral dress along with slopes .

Vicky arrived at the University of Zimbabwe , as she got of the bus , she took a deep breath and then sighed and said to herself " it's oky Vicky , you are only here to study and to make some connections " , one lass heard her and laughs and that annoyed Vicky , she wanted to slap her but she controlled her temper .

" It's rude to just laugh at someone's prayer " said Vicky

" I wouldn't call that a prayer , it's like you are trying to motivate yourself " replied the lass and laughed again , Vicky rolled her eyes and ignored her and made her way inside the school , she looked at her timetable and felt confused , " Ahhh , DLT ? I don't even know what that means " she said to herself , the same girl once again laughed at her and this time Vicky felt so embarrassed .

" You know a slay queen like you should know what that abbreviation means " she said mocking Vicky

" If you are so smart yourself , why don't you tell me what it means ?" Said Vicky , suddenly another girl appeared and said " Talia ! Are you trying to mock people once again ? "

" Come on Sasha , she is my classmate , check her timetable if you think iam lying " that is when Vicky became aware of the girl's name .

" Heloo Talia , Mrs too goodie shoes , iam Vicky " she said trying to get a handshake from Talia who looked at her from top to bottom and then hugged her instead .

" Now this is how grown ups greet each other , handshakes are old fashioned " said Talia and they both laughed

" Now can you tell me what this DLT stands for ? I wasn't even there during orientation day and this is my first time here so i might be stuck with you the whole day today " said Vicky

" It's the Diamond lectures theatre , we will go there when it's time for our lecture , as for now come along and let me get you to our class representative so that you will be added to our class' group " said Talia and they began to walk along whilst chit chatting , Sasha bid them farewell saying that she had to go to class , they exchanged phone numbers and took a few snaps together and she went on her way . Sasha was studying medicine and Vicky and Talia were studying multimedia production .

The walked till they reached a class that had few" people who seemed to be minding their own business unlike Talia" , Vicky thought .

As they approached near , a young lady who was dressing so classy to the extent that Vicky felt so jelous came and hugged both of them .

" Hey Vanessa darling " said Talia , the girl just smiled and then turned to Vicky "you new?" , Vicky just nodded her head and went on further to tell them that she had applied late and therefore could not attend orientation day , they went on to greeat others and chit chatted .

When it was time for class , they went on to the Diamond lectures theatre , they sat at the same roll , third from the back .

" This feels amazing , it's like learning in a hotel " Talia commented and they both laughed , their lecturer arrived and started to lecture , it lasted for an hour and then it was time for languages lectures .

" Iam going to my French lessons guys " said Vanessa as she was about to leave Talia stopped her " hey hey wait , take Vicky with you "

Vanessa looked at Talia and said " Do you want to study French or you want another language ? And you Talia , are you not going to your Chinese lesson ? " Vicky agreed to do French and as for Talia she was not attending the Chinese lesson but had plans to go to town and see her boyfriend who had came all the way from Marondera just to see her .

As their French lecture started , their lecturer came up to Vicky and said " Bonjour madamoise ? "

"Bonjour Monsieur , how are you ? Replied Vicky , the whole class laughed

" Not bad for a new comer , now let's continue from where we left " said the lecturer and they began their lecture , Vicky loved the French lecture more than the other lectures to the extent that after all their lectures came to an end , she began watching videos on French tutions and she stammered with the pronunciation of the words though she gave it her all , Vanessa laughed at her .

" Let's go to the faculty of medicine " said Vanessa

"What for ?" Asked Vicky and Vanessa replied her that they were going to take Sasha , when they arrived , they saw Sasha sitting besides three girls .

"Hey Sash " said Vanessa and Vicky and they went on to greet the other girls , Vanessa told Sasha that it was time they head home .

" Are you playing the role of her mama now ? Ohh by the way you guys are in which faculty ? " Asked one of the young ladies , Vanessa and Vicky looked at each other confused to which question to answer first .

" We are in the faculty of Arts and Humanities " replied Vanessa and the young ladies both laughed and this made Vanessa and Vicky uncomfortable , Sasha saw that and she said " guys stop ! This ain't funny at all "

" Come on baby girl , you are not going to be associating with these freaks from the Arts department , they are out of our league " said one of the young ladies , this made Vicky furious , she stood up to punch that lady but Sasha stopped her and they left .

" Maybe they are right Sasha , you shouldn't associate with us " said Vicky

" We are still freshmen , what if they drop out of school , this is not the time to judge one another , if you are in a University it means you are very smart in your own way " said Sasha

" Ahhh what if i got here through connections ?" Both the ladies laughed and they departed as Sasha lived just opposite the school campus and Vicky had to travel to get home .

When she arrived at home , she was feeling so exhausted to the extent that she simply went on to her room without checking on her mother .

" Hayi , don't tell me you are asleep already ?" Said her mother as she approached her

" No mama , iam just tired " replied Vicky and then she continued " mom ? , Do you think that iam studying a useless programme?" , This nearly made her mother furious .

" Who said that ? You are doing great things and iam so proud of you baby girl " she said and then she convinced her daughter to come and sit with her in the living room and Vicky told her how she came to make friends on her first day at school .

CHAPTER TWO

Days passed on , the ladies were having the best of their time at college except for Vicky who would always get back home late due to transport issues , one day she complained to her mother .

" Mom , can you atleast find me a room to stay near our school campus ? Can you imagine that everyday i have to travel late inorder to get here ahhh this is so tiresome " she said

" You know we can't afford to do that , just be grateful enough that iam able to send you to college , iam sacrificing a lot my daughter " replied her mother sadly , Vicky saw the worried look in her mother's eyes and she comforted her saying that she was only jocking.

At school , both her friends would tell her to hustle on her own inorder to find accommodation at school except for Sasha who always told her that being at home was the best .

" Don't listen to Sasha , she is also staying near the school so why is she jelous of you ?" Said Talia , Talia lived near the school also but Vanessa stayed at the school residents .

" I agree with Sasha , just be appreciative enough that you are able to travel safely here , it's not like my parents are rich but we stay a thousand miles away from this school so i had no option but to live here " replied Vanessa

These ladies spent most of their times chit chatting about how they will have to find a way to make Vicky stay near the school , sometimes they could even skip class just to have that silly conversation .

One day during lunch , Talia offered to buy them lunch and as they were going to Gucci's spazza just across the school gate , they saw a young man who looked exactly like Vannesa standing near a black BMW , Vanessa stood aghast .

" How?" She asked herself and both the girls looked at her

" What's wrong Vee ?" They asked at the same time , Vanessa gave no response but she quickly rushed on to the young man , he was not surprised at all to see Vanessa .

" And there she is " he said referring to Vanessa

" Victor what are you doing here ? And whose car is this ?" Asked Vanessa

" Save your questions sis , as you can see iam also a student here , aren't you proud of your twin brother ?" Asked Victor , the girls were surprised to hear that Vanessa had a twin brother whom she never mentioned .

Vanessa and her friends left Victor minding his own business and they proceeded to the spazza , as they were going there , Talia could not take her eyes off Victor . The girls asked Vanessa why she didn't tell them that she had a twin brother , Vanessa went on to tell them her sad life and how she came to study at that University .

" So you mean someone's husband is doing all this for you just for free ?" Asked Vicky curiously , both the ladies laughed except for her and Vanessa

" No silly , she is also his wife , a secret wife , you know a small house " replied Sasha .

"Ohh " said Vicky and she gave no comment , this came as a surprise to Vicky , she had heard of the so called blessers but she didn't know that they actually existed till Vanessa's story , the question that was left in their minds was how his brother managed to get into school also despite their poor background .

" Do you think that he joined satanism" asked Vicky

" I don't know , iam also confused ,let's stalk him and find out " replied Sasha , Vicky and Sasha were so close and they called each other bestie.

Sasha and Vicky started avoiding Vanessa and Talia so that they can observe Victor , it was so easy for Sasha to get information about Victor as they were both in the same class , Sasha wanted to get close to him but he avoided her as possible .

One day after lunch , Sasha did not have any lectures , but Vicky did have though she didn't attend , they followed Victor to the parking lot where he went on and got into a white Discovery with tinted windows , they could not see what was inside so they made a plan to go through the front pretending to be taking photos for each other .Victor did not see them and could not even hear them as he was busy with something , as they were taking photos , Vicky spoted an old woman , old enough to be Victor's grandmother sitting on his lap , busy cuddling " gross " she thought .

After they had observed thoroughly , they went on to sit opposite the parking lot , they just looked at each other and shook their heads .

" So this is how he made it here ?" They said at the same time and shook their heads

" He is a Ben 10 !" They shouted not so loud and they both laughed , as they were busy laughing , Vicky's phone rang and she went on to answer it .

"WHAT!?" She said and then she turned on to face Sasha

" Alright wait for us there " she said and then she turned on to Sasha again who was just staring at her curiously and said " follow me now!"

They rushed near the main library and they saw Talia standing there with her eyes watery

" What's wrong ?" Asked Sasha

"Vanessa has been shot " replied Talia , she went on to tell them that she had gone to collect money from her blesser in town but the man was not there but rather his wife was there with her friends and they had guns , they took her hostage and shot her in the legs and they then took her to a private hospital where she will be treated .

" Did you call the police ?" Asked Sasha

" No , the people who shot her threatened to kill me if i would do so , they said they are going to take care of her medical bills and school fees , they just wanted to teach her a lesson she will never forget her entire life " replied Talia , Sasha and Vicky began to cry , they asked if they could see her and Talia promised them that they were going to visit her the following day .

CHAPTER THREE

The girls went on to Westend Hospital in Harare to see Vanessa , they saw her lying on the bed quietly , when she saw them , she smiled .

" You all came?" She asked smiling , the three girls nearly cried but she turned on to them and said " silly , don't cry , iam going to be fine , except that iam not going to be able to walk " she said though smiling as if she had said something funny .

The three girls looked at each other surprised

" What do you mean ?" They asked her

" Both my legs are going to be cut off because of the gun shots " she replied , Vicky could not take it anymore , she quickly went outside crying , after a couple of minutes , Sasha and Talia followed her outside and they went back to school , as they arrived at the school gate , they bumped into Victor once again , Sasha blocked his way .

" And then ?" He asked looking at her right in the eyes

" You need to go and see your sister , she is ...." She could not finish her words as Victor cut her off and said " I was there today , i know she has been shot and she told me everything , now get out of my way before i smash that ugly face of yours " Sasha got out of his way and the girls both stood aghast , they had no idea that Victor already knew what had happened to his sister .

Days passed on and the fake news reached the school that Vanessa was involved in a car accident and was seriously injured and as a result , she had to drop that semester .

" Did you hear what is being said ?" Asked Vicky

" What ?" Asked back Talia and Sasha

" About the accident , this is all fake news , this is not right " replied Vicky

" Hey , we don't wanna get ourselves twisted in this story , just let it be , it's none of our business , remember one thing , we came here to learn and thats all " said Sasha and that was the truth

A few days passed on and the girls went on to visit their friend Vanessa at the hospital , one day as they were at the hospital , they bumped into the woman who shot Vanessa , she warned them not to ever come back there again and the police came to investigate the case and it was approved as a car accident .

" Life is not fair " said Vicky and she began to cry as she looked at Vanessa who was asleep at the hospital

The following day , Vanessa was to be transferred to a hospital outside the country to get better treatment .

" So will we be able to see you again ?" Asked Sasha , Vanessa smiled and said " You girls are the best , all the best in your studies , if iam able to walk again as the doctors have promised me , i will be able to come back and see you "

Vanessa was taken outside the country and the girls always went on to stalk Victor each and everyday as they wanted to know how their friend was doing .

" Why don't you go and see her yourselves ?" Complained Victor as he hates these girls

CHAPTER FOUR

The three girls were nolonger happy due to what had happened to one of their friend Vanessa , they would reminisce about the times they had with her and they would smile but Vicky alwasya ended up crying .

As they were coming from the computer centre , they met one of their female lectures

"Afternoon ma'am ?" They greeted her and she responded politely

" So how is Vanessa doing ?" She asked them

" She is getting better " they lied and they had no asscess to contact her so they didn't know her health status at that moment .

As she departed from them , Talia told Vicky that she had to go and submit her assignment .

" Can i go with you ?" Asked Vicky as she had to submit her assignment as well , Talia insisted on submitting the two assignments on her own so she left her cellphone with Vicky .

A message poped on the screen and it shocked Vicky such that she began to mistrust Talia .

After a while , Talia came back and Vicky handed her back her cellphone .

" Talia !" Called Vicky

"What ?" Asked Talia

"Ohh that is ....ohh i forgot what i wanted to say" , said Vicky and they went on to class , as they were at home , Vicky told her mother what had happened to Vanessa and what his twin brother was doing as well .

" You see my daughter , that is why i forbid you to stay at school " said her mother

" No mom , not all people are like that , don't you get it , she was desperate to study that is why she had to do what she did , i don't blame her , i blame her parents for failing to sacrifice for their children , now look at her state " replied Vicky

Vicky wanted to convince her mother in telling her that going to college didn't mean that it was a pass for one to do all evil acts but was a way for one to choose where he or she want to be in their future .

" Do you think college will make me naught mom ?" Asked Vicky

Her mother looked at her and then took her in her arms and said " no my daughter , it will make you grow up and prepare for your future " Vicky smiled , that is exactly what she wanted to hear from her mother .

At school , Vicky was sitting with Sasha and she told Sasha that she had something to tell her .

" Tell me now , iam curious " suggested Sasha

" You are not going to believe me if i tell you " said Vicky , Sasha insisted , Vicky went on to tell Sasha that one of their male lectures was proposing to her and that the same lecturer was dating Talia and Talia was carrying his child

" Shut the front door !" Replied Sasha and she continued " so he is now after you ?"

"Yes he is " replied back Vicky , they both knew what these lectures were capable of doing if you didn't compile with what they wanted , the ladies knew that very soon Talia was going to drop out of school inorder to avoid embarrassment and they knew that she knew that the now knew of what her situation was like .

CHAPTER FIVE

Everything seemed to be fine for Talia till she discovered that she was pregnant and worse still , one of her lectures was responsible , she had no idea on what to do , she wanted to terminate the child but she was afraid to lose her own life in the process

" Ohh God , how will i face my mother in this state " she murmured to herself and she felt the presence of someone at her back , as she turned to see who it was , she saw her two friends Sasha and Vicky and they seemed to have heard everything .

" Are you going to tell us everything now " they asked her , she began to cry and the two ladies came to comfort her .

" He threatened me that he was going to make me fail the exs " she cried , Vicky remembered the same that he had also told her that if she don't start dating him , he was going to make her fail as well .

" We need to deal with him !" Suggested Sasha

" But how ?" Asked Vicky and Talia

" He is not my lecturer so it's going to be easy " replied Sasha

As they were busy comforting Talia , the lecturer appeeared in their way and Sasha blocked his way .

" Not so fast Mr " she said

" Do you even know who iam ?, move now!" He said

" Not until you apologize to these two and promise to take full responsibility for your baby " said Sasha , the lecturer was so rude and he refused to agree with Sasha , as a result , Sasha and her friends went on to report the case to the Dean , the Dean promised to help the ladies .

In about three days , the matter was taken to court , and the lecturer lost his job , they were happy but Talia's parents were so worried about their daughter , the man had declined the responsibility of the pregnancy and he had gone out of the country and Vicky and her friends were still in the process of making it in the college till the end.
