A NEW PET

In this era, just like werewolves, the number of vampires was not comparable to humans. In the city, there might only be five to a dozen vampires, and that was why it wasn't easy for Evie to find a vampire as her bodyguard.

In the White Castle, the only vampire who held the status of her guard was Vernon Walter, while the other guards were humans. Even the maids who worked in the mansion were human too, and that was why Evie couldn't freely reveal her true identity even when she was at home.

That was why Evie chose to talk to the head bodyguard privately instead of questioning the man openly with the humans witnessing their conversation.

"They're humans, My Lady," the red-haired man replied. "But all of them are skilled, and they also carry weapons. I can see how their weapons are more sophisticated than the ones we own, and that's why our people are pressed when we fight them."

"Their weapons are more advanced than ours? Do you think our weapons are too outdated?" Evie asked the man standing in front of her desk.

"I don't think so, My Lady," the man answered once again. "Even if we don't have a lot of guns in this place, they aren't all bad weapons, but the people who came to attack us last night somehow had more advanced weapons that were hard to find in the market. That's why I can guess that those people aren't ordinary."

Evie had already guessed that the people who dared to attack her mansion last night weren't ordinary. They could find out her address, and they might know that she had strong security guards who were also armed with powerful weapons. Their courage to launch an attack certainly meant they were prepared, and that was why Evie was even more curious about the identity of the mastermind behind the incident.

"Everything was recorded by the surveillance cameras, right? Have you checked the record?" Evie once again asked the man.

"Yes, My Lady. Everything was recorded by the surveillance cameras, and I checked that too. However, there didn't seem to be anything strange about the guys other than their weapons, and that's why we still haven't found any leads as of now," Vernon replied.

Yesterday, Evie believed the person who had tried to kidnap her had an extraordinary background, and that was why she ordered her men to take him back to her mansion instead of reporting him to the police. She had planned to interrogate the man herself instead of handing him over to the police, but now she had lost the man from her clutches, and that was why her face looked troubled at this moment.

"So, those guys are only after our hostage and not something else in the mansion, right?" Evie asked again.

Hearing the question, Vernon nodded before replying, "That's right, My Lady. After they beat our people, they immediately tried to find the room where we held our hostage, and they immediately left this place with that man. I'm sure someone is hiding something, My Lady."

Evie was also sure someone was hiding something from her at this point, but who could it be?
