Chapter 49: You for You

*Claire*

I wake up early the next morning. My eyes feel puffy and disgusting like I spent the past few days crying. My ears hurt, and burn, from where my earrings were carelessly ripped out of my earlobes. Just the thought makes me nauseated.

My wrist is bruised but, then again, the rest of my body is slowly becoming one large bruise too. One other thing I notice is the incredible warmth pressed against my entire back and the firm arm wrapped around my midsection.

That’s right!

Nathaniel!

I turn quickly, noticing the stiffness in my neck immediately, and catch a glimpse of his features. He looks like he is still asleep. I know vampires rest, but it is odd seeing him sleep. What is more interesting is that he is very warm.

I squirm in his grip until I am facing him, my front against his front, and give him a good, long look. He also looks like he has seen better days.
