Does he have a brain?

Soon they reached the VIP area. The VIP area had capsules with medium synchronisation. The VR capsules came in three synchronisations: low, medium and high.

Most casual players used capsules with low synchronisation while players who played it seriously hoping to earn some money had medium synchronisation

While to pro players whose life depended on Reverie, a high synchronisation capsule was a must. Those things were difficult to acquire and only people with connections could get them. 

So, it was natural that VR cafes had only up to medium synchronisation capsules. Chris recognised these instantly since he had medium synchronisation capsules that he bought using all his savings. 

Natasha naturally played in high-end capsules. After accompanying them to the VIP area, the receptionist left since Natasha asked them to be left alone.

Natasha had a conflicted look as she stared at these capsules. 

"What happened?" Raizen asked, sensing her discomfort. 

"I just thought, what if these capsules don't work on you?" She voiced her discomfort.

"What do you mean?" Chris asked, failing to understand her meaning. 

"As you know, the VR capsules use brain signals to make us control our virtual character inside the game. But since he is not a human what if the capsule can't detect and register his brain signals? And first of all, does he even have a brain?" Natasha asked. 

Chris was dumbfounded after hearing her explanation. 

'Damn, I didn't think her thoughts were this deep' he thought, amazed. 

"Don't worry little girl, I do have a brain and if it doesn't recognise my brain signals, I can just mimic human brain signals" Raizen replied. 

Natasha was even more amazed by the abilities of vampires and resolved herself to become a vampire.

As for Chris he already entered the capsule and started to login into the game. Raizen looked at this process with great interest since he wanted to know how these things worked. 

"Raizen please go lie in the capsules" Natasha instructed him. Following her instructions, Raizen entered the capsule and the capsule closed itself.

To avoid any anomalies he modified his body to function like a normal human. This type of thing was very simple for him. Even among vampires, he had a great talent for manipulating his body. He can modify himself with just a thought. 

As Raizen lay in the capsule he felt very comfortable. Even though he was in a closed space he felt he could breathe easily, not that it mattered to him since he could live without breathing for days. 

"Raizen, can you hear me?" Raizen suddenly heard Natasha. He immediately noticed that the sound came from within the capsule.

This feature was frequently used by parents to notify their children to exit the capsule. If they were inside the game, they will be notified that someone is calling from the outside. 

"Yeah," Raizen answered. 

"Okay begin the starting sequence" Natasha instructed from the outside. 

"Start synchronisation" Raizen said. 

'Iris scan starting' Raizen heard a mechanical voice. He was notified by Natasha beforehand that this was an AI, an artificial being.

'Iris scan complete….Iris not found in the database….Do you want to register as a new user' Raizen heard the voice again. 

"No" Raizen answered. Natasha informed him beforehand that he needed a valid identity to register as a new user. Since he just woke up he obviously didn't have a valid ID. 

Also, Natasha said he needs to wait at least 1 or 2 days before he gets a valid ID if he registers. 

"Use another ID" Raizen said as instructed by Natasha. 

A new holographic screen opened before him. Curious, Raizen waved his hand through it but nothing happened. The screen had two areas, one for the user name and another for the password. 

"User name: Natasha

Password:******" Raizen soon entered Natasha's account information. 

The screen now displayed new information

'Waiting for confirmation' 

Outside the capsule, Natasha heard a notification from her quantum watch. It was a message from Dream Corporation, the company that created Reverie. 

'A new user is trying to login using your account. Do you authorize it?' was the contents of the message. Natasha authorised it. 

'Conformation complete' Raizen saw the message on the holographic screen. 

As soon as the login was complete Raizen saw three characters on the screen. It was Crimson Countess, Natasha and Cabbage Queen. 

Dream corporation allowed each account a maximum of three avatars. But most people just created a single avatar and focused on it. 

"Do you want me to guide you inside the game?" Natasha asked. 

"No need, I will try to discover its functions myself" Raizen said, since where was the fun in getting spoon-fed everything. 

Initially, he even wanted to operate the VR capsule on his own. But Natasha said he needed more time to figure out its functions on his own.

After some hesitation, he agreed since these VR capsules didn't even belong to him. After he got his own capsule he would explore it all on his own. 

"Then select Natasha or….Cabbage Queen" Natasha said, embarrassed because of the second name. 

Raizen selected Cabbage Queen since that name sounded interesting and funny. 

'Logging in into Reverie' Raizen heard a mechanical voice as he closed his eyes. Soon his consciousness travelled through a sea of clouds and landed on a female body. 

Since Natasha was registered as a female in her ID, all the avatars created in her accounts were female in default

Raizen looked around in interest for a few minutes. Everything around him felt real even to his vampire senses. He could feel his breathing, the room's hardness, this new human body. It was as if he was in another world. 

He was currently in some sort of hotel room. Raizen moved towards the door to leave the room but felt great discomfort. 

'Haha, such a foreign feeling' Raizen thought in amusement. This feeling was not because he is in a female body. It was because he is in a human body. 

His body felt slow, weak and out of sync. He walked around the room for a few minutes to familiarise himself with this new body. After getting comfortable in his new body Raizen opened the door and went outside. 

Thus began the bizarre and unusual tale of an old vampire playing a VR game.
