Unchosen

Hiyato Kage once had a normal and perfectly average life, but when he decided to try to save a child from instant death he was thrust into a life he never thought was possible. Ostracized and rejected by even the gods themselves, he started the journey to re-write the rules to his favor. ___________________________________________________ I'm a student that doesn't have much time to write, so I'll only be releasing when possible, but I'll try to post every week or two.

Skill Points

Hours passed since I killed the wolf, yet nothing else had jumped at me or attempted to kill me. It was near time to set up camp again when I saw a cave in a small hill. It was about a five minute walk from where I was. Feeling that my luck had finally turned around, I started to head towards it. As I approached the cave I heard the sound of running water. It looks like I might get something to drink as well. It had been nearly two days since I landed in this forest, but I hadn't found a single water source till now.

Entering the cave, I found it to be absolutely huge. It was a giant, circular cavern about a hundred meters in radius from the entrance. The entrance was from around the center of the cavern and to the far edge I could see an underground stream. The stone in the cavern was made out of shined and gleamed even in the low light.

According to my analyze skill it was nearly six thousand year old marble that even had its own special attributes! The outside light was starting to dim more and the cave was being consumed by festering darkness. With nowhere else to go I huddled up behind the entranceway and waited till morning. I had tried to sleep, but no matter what I tried, I just couldn't. Although it was slow, the night passed without anything interesting or noteworthy occurring.

As the sun rose I got up and walked outside. The hill the entrance was in was somewhat small, but it was open which seemed to be quite rare in this forest. I opened my stats and thought about what I should do.

I was just realizing that there was a new stat. I examined it to figure out its effects.

skill points - The points earned to increase skills and stats. 1 skill point can raise a stat by one. 10 skill points can raise a skill level. 15 points can be used to raise mana by 10%. 25 skill points need to be used to raise a stat to a divine state. Next option unlocked at level 45.

Looking at the effect, I decided to put 43 skill points into mana affinity. Doing this caused a message to pop up.

Would you like to use 25 skill points to enhance mana affinity to a divine level

[yes][no]

Although I didn't expect to reach divine levels just from doing this. I chose yes and near-instantly felt a change in the air around me. Slight glows could be seen coming from nearly everything I saw. The glow was like an extreme bloom effect in a video game. I opened my status again.

I then shoveled 50 skill points into the ethereal body skill, as that seemed to be important from the skills name and description. My body started to feel light and softly glowed. My sight sharpened more than ten fold and I could hear the leaves rustling miles away. I could feel the vibrations of the worms beneath my feet and smell the sap from inside the trees. The glow subsided and faded away, but the change in my senses remained. I examined ethereal body and mana affinity to see what changed.

skill name: ethereal body

effect: Your body and soul are one, your mana becomes your life force. Hitting 0 mana will cause your soul to dissipate into the aether.

Side Effect: Overusing mana will weaken the soul and cause horrible pain to fall upon the user. Overuse occurs when 20% or more mana is used at once. Pain is proportional to the amount used.

lv.3 Passive effect: Mana regeneration speed is multiplied and mana is now regenerated at 10% every 60 seconds.

lv.4 passive effect: Immune to physical attacks.

lv.5 passive effect: Pain from extreme mana usage is reduced.

… I wish it had let me know beforehand. It's no wonder I had felt like I was being ripped apart before. I would have to be careful from now on with my mana usage.

___________________________

mana affinity - A numerical representation of how much control you have over mana and aether.

Divine effect: mana sight is activated. Mana regeneration is boosted by 2x. Can use holy magic of your own created or adopted pantheon.

Skill name: mana sight

effect: Allows the user to see mana and aether. Mana is shown as clouds surrounding objects. The thicker and brighter clouds show stronger mana. Concentrated aether can be seen as a grey mist.

Looking around I noticed that nearly everything had a cloud around it. Some were bright and some were dim but all of them were thick. I noticed that there was a thicker cloud inside the cave from last night. I followed it inside and noticed something that I hadn't the day before. Near the underground stream there was a small hole. A torrent of mana was emanating from it. It seemed to be about two foot wide and five foot tall. I walked closer and looked inside. It was long. Too long. It seemed to go on for hundreds of feet with seemingly no end. I decided it would be best to check it out after I had figured out to use the only weapon I was provided with: My mana.
