Living Inside a Cave
This meant that he couldn't see Euandros spending his days hiding in a cave, thinking that he was freeing himself from the shackles of his past. When really it was just another cage to keep away the pain.
He will smile and greet his fellow warriors warmly, but it was not the same.
Once or twice a week, he will sleep with one of them. But it was not the same.
He will focus on hunting, foraging food, and preparing for the baby's arrival. But deep down he knew it was all just a distraction.
Everyone in his crew could see it, though. But they did not press further, didn't say a word. They knew that their navarch was a person who would rather keep his problems to himself, who would rather deal with what burdens him quietly. And usually, he manages it on his own.
So there was no need to help.
And Euandros did believe that he was managing on his own. That he was slowly forgetting, slowly seeing that incident as just a passing matter.
