Chapter 50

Brian stirred under his weight and his legs kicked out lazily. “Matt?”

“Hey.”

Brian sighed sleepily then turned on his back. “Why the fuck’s your phone off?”

Matt winced at the annoyance in his brother’s voice, but relaxed a tiny bit at the worry that colored the voice instead of annoyance.

“Goddamn battery went out on me.”

“What time is it?” Brian blinked through the fogginess in his eyes and the sleep of his body, trying to wake up.

“It’s late. I’m sorry,” he said after a moment.

Brian eyed him as he straightened in the bed. “You okay?”

Matt really wasn’t, and under Brian’s scrutiny he was a millimeter away from losing it and just letting the tears spill. He didn’t have the strength to undergo the guaranteed inquest that he would be subjected to. Instead he pulled out all the acting skills he possessed, took a shuddering breath, and said, “I’m fine. I’m tired though. Can I have my PJs?”
