Ch 7- A third wheel

The Old man laughed mockingly "Do you think I would try and stop you from marrying Gisele? Go ahead and marry her, it's true, it would be more delightful knowing she is your wife but if you make her lose even a strand of hair on her head or makes her suffer in any way, I would make sure i hunt down that seductress till she has no skin to cover her bones" He turned to leave after saying this.

"You should also leave Chloe alone, stop boycotting her and most importantly stop meddling in our relationship then you should be rest assured that your precious lady would leave a comfortable and happy life or else I'll turn her world into a living hell" Devon made his own bargain too.

The Old mam halted but didn't say anything. He harrumphed and continued to walk out of the door. It was obvious. None of them won but still each both got what they wanted and what they didn't want. Devon wanted his lover to be safe but hated that he had to marry someone else to achieve this, Grandpa Hugo wanted Devon to be married to someone else especially someone special to him like Gisele but he hated that it amounted to him still having a relationship with that Chloe of a girl. Still there was nothing either of them could do, they could only hope each other's eyes open to the truth and reality.

While Grandpa Hugo hoped Devon realized the true personality of his lover, Devon also hoped that his family learned to love and accept the woman he loved.

The probability of either of their wishes happening all depended on fate. Who knows what fate would do, pick up a chair and watch the family drama or act the referee and put this misunderstandings to an end.

At the staircase, a little figure vanished back into the shadows.

Gisele had heard the commotion from the room she was in. She had a good memory so she immediately found the voice familiar and then rushed out to see who it was. At a glance, she recognized the Old man as the same Old mam she had met during the day.

What a coincidence! An unpleasant one anyways.

It turns out he was the grandfather to the young man who she still doesn't know his name. She watched them bicker and throw daggered glares amongst themselves. It was surprising that the Old man was standing up for her against his grandson.

What did the young man mean she was precious to the Old man? She barely even knew him and had only gotten to meet him by coincidence?

After listening to the arguments and conversation she could finally understand everything. Like a ghost she swayed back to her room in disbelief.

A third wheel.

That was what she was. She was in the mess only to be used as a shield for some other girl. As she got back to her room, she slid down the door and suddenly began laughing, as she laughed tears ran down her face ceaselessly.

Just how unlucky was she? To be caught in a crossfire that totally had no business with her.

It wasn't even about the debt the Raoul owed. It was clear she was caught up in the mess all because she somehow was favoured by that Old man. Now his grandson was hell-bent on making her a cannon fodder for his lover.

A total stranger! She was being used as a shield for a total stranger!

Gisele could not help but feel jealous. Jealous and angry at the same time. Why does she always have to be the unfortunate one? Why wasn't any other girl chosen to be the Cannon Fodder? Why her? Just how much did the heavens love to see her suffer?.

It must be her punishment for treating her grandfather who loved her that way. She knows.

At this point, she didn't even know who to hate most. Raoul? Her mother? Roxanne? Her newly wedded husband or the supposed marriage rival?

The next day Gisele was woken up with a sound of knocks. She opened her eyes and closed them almost instantly. Her eyes were swollen for crying herself to sleep. Her head felt like it was placed under a heavy weight and her throat felt dry from thirst. She got up from the bed and walked to the door. There was an elderly lady standing at the door.

"Good morning Mistress, what would you like this morning?" The woman asked as Gisele opened the door. Her face was a mess, her hair looked like as bird nest. she looked miserably. The cautious look the maid gave her reminded her of this fact. But who cares!

She was in no obligation to look good for anybody.

"Mistress what would you like to have for breakfast?" The Maid asked again when she saw she hadn't gotten a reply the first time.

"Anything Edible" she replied back shortly.

The maid smiled and announced "breakfast is served then. You can come downstairs and have breakfast with Master Devon"

Gisele subconsciously shrunk when she heard that name.

Devon— her cold ruthless husband.

His words of making her life a living hell if his lover was touched flowed back to her head. He was cruel and heartless. This was the first impression he had given her and he didn't fail to not disappoint her assumption when he uttered those words. Still she envied his girlfriend, who he protected with such gutsy.

Gisele opened her lips to decline the offer made by the maid but her stomach answered before she could with a loud grumble. She had only had a miniscule donut to eat the previous day. It's no wonder her stomach was proclaiming its famishment.

"Miss should have something to eat. It would be such a waste if a gorgeous lady like Miss should pass out from starvation" The maid complimented to ease Gisele's discomfort.

They might not have been present at the scene last night but all the servant in the house had gotten to hear of the argument that happened between the Old Chairman and their Master Devon. They knew of the miss that was trapped to the family with a marriage she didn't want.

Head Maid Louise must have seen Gisele reluctance to have breakfast after Devon's name was mentioned that was why she tried her best to cheer her up. It was no mere compliments.

Burnt brown waist length hair, Long eyelashes that looked like the wings of butterflies, a strikingly gorgeous ash eyes, thin heart shaped lips, a pale skin that looked like pearls and a figure the despised her age. She was no a regular beauty you see on the streets of reality.

Gisele had always been an exceeding beauty right from when she was young, that was the reason she had even been specially invited to debut in a teen romance drama but all of her beauty went to waste when she had to hide it behind ugly dresses, just so Roxanne could shine.

"Okay I'll be down in a second" The woman was nice, so Gisele offered a genuine smile. Pamela turned to leave but Gisele called her back.

"Ma'am I have nothing to change with" She said a little bit embarrassed. Her parents had dragged her here and her good for nothing husband had married her off to himself, none if them had even spent a second to think of her basic necessities.

Louise smiled "I'll see to that. And please call me Aunty Lou".
