Chapter 29

B: Jess looked at him when he spoke. She knew she had let her anger get the best of her before and that was the fact of the demons she had been around. When he told her to go and that they should not have sex she took a deep breath, fighting back tears. "Do you want me to leave? Do you not want me the way you had?" She asked while crying. "Seth and I HAVE gotten help for our anger. You were not there, you don't know. WE got our help. Yes, sometimes we lose control of it but that is what happens. No one can control their anger fully. I snapped back there, and I let it go too far, I understand that. But now you are convinced that Seth and I need "help". Maybe Isaac it is you who needs help. We have been through counseling and anger classes. But I guess you can't get that because you are hell bent that I need it. Seth and I did our time. Hell, I was even put through several classes for mundanes." She said coolly.

"Maybe you need classes. Maybe you need to learn that you can't save everyone." She looked at him and got up. "Maybe me leaving will make you see the light." She said before she walked out of the house and back to the institute. Soon after she arrived, she went to Alexander and set up her flight. Seth and Blane took her to the airport, and they all said their goodbyes and Jessie got on the plane and left for Paris.

I: -Some Years Later-

After taking most of the little money he had left to return from Paris, Isaac wandered around the Mundane streets drunk, and unsophisticated. The "bottle" he had been sucking on for the past hour was nearly empty, but he did not want to be the one to finish it and get caught by the cops, since he had to drive home soon. The last thing he needed was a few mundane idiots who truly thought they were in "authority" to put him in their stupid jail again.

The night was the best time for hunters, they could easily blend in with the shadows. However, Isaac was out every night for his own reasons. He would complete his work, in fact he would do it so well that there were actually complaints that he did not leave any missions for anyone else to handle. He managed to do it all while being more than partially drunk.

From the day Jess had left, Isaac made a way to go to Paris. He had spent over a month searching for her, but Jess had kept her promise that he would never find her. He didn't. No matter how hard he tried or how many times he attempted to raid the Institute in Paris, he was never able to truly make it. He just wanted to see her, another chance at their relationship? No. She was gone, and she had left him because of their differences.

What bothered Isaac the most was that she gave up on him. Jess could have given him another chance to fix what was broken, maybe a chance to help her reach her goals and possibly improve her life if he could. Yet she constantly wanted him to be the best that he could be, since she was already perfect. Her and Seth were perfect, perfect, perfect. She would never see her own faults. He wished he could see her again. All he wanted was their fighting to stop, and the love to return.

So, he waited. And waited. And...waited. Jess never came back. Jess never tried to find him. Jess didn't care anymore. So, he slowly sunk into loneliness, and the depression of being without the special person in his life made Isaac turn worse than before. Isaac made his way to the Institute, crashed in his room, and drank himself to sleep.

B: It had been four years since Jess had been to New York. She had been in Paris, hunting and learning things she never knew. While she had been there the Institute which she was working for had been broken into, or well someone tried to. She knew who it was, but it did not matter she was not a resident at the Institute. She had a beautiful apartment near the Eiffel Tower. She had quickly learned French and was working with top hunters to stop a demon, which they had done. Jessie was now at the age of 23 and she had changed a lot.

During her stay in Paris she had made new friends that had helped her with hunting. She had been trained by the world's best hunters in each category, hand to hand, stele, sword, bow and arrow, and dagger. She was also put to studying runes. She now knew more about them than most. She had found new ones and even created some. She was now a woman who knew as much as she could about her world. She had also studied demons and mundanes. She was now the top hunter at the New York Institute, and she was proud.

When she returned to the Institute several hunters welcomed her back, but the one she had been looking forward to seeing was gone. She had spent weeks looking for him. Most told her that Isaac had left the Institute and never returned. Seth said he had seen him once or twice, but he was not the man they knew. Jess had been tracking him and when she saw him for the first time he was drunk and looked homeless.

Jess followed him to the Institute and waited till morning and confronted him. "So, this is what you do with your life when I leave? First you tried to break into the Paris Institute and now you are a drunk who gave up hunting?" She said with her arms crossed. She was in a tight black dress and leather work boots that had a goth look to them. She looked at him and waited for him to answer her. She knew the answer, but she wanted to hear it.

I: The man leaped from his couch in shock as her voice rang into his drunken mind. He blinked hard when he saw her and clutched his heart with slight shock. "What the hell." He was scared half to death, ready to grab his sword as if a demon had finally found him. He had been running for a long time but eventually the demons he had brought to justice would find a way to repay him for his slaughter of their kind.

When he saw it was Jess his eyes went wide with surprise. He stumbled from the couch and nearly fell but stood upright to look at her. Then she said those words, the distaste in her voice, yeah, she was the same old Jess. Older, more beautiful and mature, but the same old girl. He chuckled hard and shook his head, grabbing a fresh bottle. He would be drinking for days after this. "Don't you dare Jess." He said it in the middle of his laughter. "Don't you dare show up at my door after four years ready to fight. Ready to judge me, blame me, come at me for what I am or what I have become. It has nothing to do with you. I have been living my life for four years this way and I don't give a damn what others have to say. Especially not you."

He stood still and ripped the top from the gin and began to gulp the bottle down. "The Paris Institute is a bunch of- of- Lowlife wannabes. Tossing a good man like me out because of some nincompoop story from Alexander. They didn't even give me a chance, they didn't even let me through the door! Until I knocked a few teeth out." He then began to laugh again. "And they couldn't ha-ha- they couldn't even stop me. A bunch of weak bookworms." He laughed again and gulped more down. "You look nice Jess." He said raising an eyebrow as he looked over her body. "Did you come to seduce me?"
