Chapter 5

Treasure's POV

I didn't sleep a wink last night, between the crying, sobbing, feeling sorry for myself, hating my inability to move freely, the fact that my choice was taken from me, my abandonment issues, I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned, had nightmares, woke up, went back to sleep and the nightmares continued.

My mom left for work early hours of the morning, 6am, she does that sometimes so she can beat traffic. She came to check on me before leaving, I pretended to be asleep, I thought she'll give me a kiss before leaving  like she regularly does whenever I'm unable to go to school but she said nothing to me, I don't blame her, I wouldn't say anything to me either.

I woke up at 12pm with a really bad headache, must be from the excessive crying.

The next thing I thought about was food, I was starving. I went into the kitchen to fix myself something to eat. I checked the kitchen cabinet for some indomie, my favorite noodles, I can kill for indomie, figuratively speaking. I made the noodles with some boiled egg, onions, pepper and carrots and ate to the fullest.

After eating, I sat down for an hour waiting for the food to digest before drinking water, I read a journal a long time ago written by a dietitian, she said "water dilutes digestive juices so therefore it's best we give an hour gap after meal so the body can absorb the nutrients" and ever since then I've observed it, it helps with bloating and indigestion a lot, but this isn't for people with spicy tongue trust me. I later washed the dishes and went to my room immediately I was done. I laid on my bed and played good music, I love music, it's the one thing that gives me joy and makes forget everything, I never leave the house without ear plugs except I'm going to school or church.

The ringtone of my phone woke me up, actually shocked me up. I checked and it's April. April is my best friend, we're like sisters, twins even, we've been friends since primary 3, so it's no surprise that we look alike, behave alike, reason alike and talk alike, when you're friends with somebody for that long you tend to look like each other, exactly like been married. She must be worried I wasn't in school today, her only gossip partner.

"Hello how may I help you"?

"Hmm, you say"?

"Ah ah naw, how may I help you"? I replied

"I'm going to end this call and when I call you back, you better receive sense"

I laughed so loud, typical April, overly dramatic. Oh she did end the call and immediately called back.

"Hello Madam" I answered her like she wanted

"Mm-hmm, now we're talking, why weren't you in school today"?

"Is that your good afternoon or how are you"?

"You don't deserve any of those yet, so answer my question before I send thunder you fish"

"Hahaha, thunder ke, from where, you over dramatic fowl"

We both laughed, like kindergarteners, we're like that, we play and tease each other a lot.

"I had a stomach upset" I replied.

"Menstrual period"?

"No"

"Mm-hmm, tell me what really happened"?

April always knows when I'm lying, it's like a magical gift for her.

"I had a fight with my mom"

"What happened"?

I told her everything

"You need to be cutting that woman some slack, she is trying"

"April I know"

"No... no oh, you don't know, we all know you're in pain but common now, your mom didn't deserve that"

"Madam, I didn't tell you so you'd make me feel guilty"

"I don't care, I'm telling you the truth, if you like you listen if you like you don't, oyo is your own o"

I was silent, I really wanted to end the call but she was right.

"Are you still there or you've ended my call as usual"

"I'm still here"

"You need to apologize to your mom"

"Yeah, I'll do that when she gets back"

"That's my good girl"

"Mtcheew... madam guilty conscience"

"Anyways someone wants to talk to you"

"Who"?

"Just one person that was doing like they are having heart failure because you were not in school"

"April wh..." before I could finish my sentence I heard "hello"
