Haunting past

Ruby Gerome was the daughter of Jerry Gerome, the oldest chauffeur of the Becker family.

Jerry had been working for the family for more than 30 years now. He was more like a family than their chauffeur. He shared a close relationship with everyone in the family, especially George and Angella. 

After his wife passed away during childbirth, he was left alone to raise his daughter on his own. But things were a little easy for him as Millie Becker, Angella's mothers, offered to take care of Ruby along with Angella when Jerry was at work. 

Since Ruby was only a couple of years younger than Angella and they had grown up together, they were quite close to each other. 

Angella had always considered her as her own sister and shared everything with her. But that changed when Ruby crossed all her boundaries and somehow managed to crawl her way towards Angella's longtime boyfriend and then fiance, Logan Fredrick. 

Though Angella knew Ruby wasn't the only one to be blamed for whatever had happened and that Logan was equally responsible, Ruby's betrayal hurt her more. She hadn't expected her out of all the people to betray her like that. 

After the incident four years ago, no one from the Becker family including Jerry Gerome was in touch or in talking terms with Ruby. Her father, of all the people, was the first one to break all ties with her. 

"What does she want?" Mike wasn't a big fan of Ruby and this was even before she hooked up with Logan. In fact, he was the first one to warn Angella about Ruby's intention as she always behaved differently when Logan was around. 

At that time, Angella ignored his warnings thinking it was nothing but who would have thought that Mike's intuition would turn out to be so correct. 

"Let's find out." Angella took a deep breath before answering the call. This would be the first time she was talking to Ruby in four years. 

"Angella, you are home," Ruby's pretentious sweet voice echoed in the car as the phone was on the loud speaker. 

"What do you want?" Angella asked, cutting down the chase. She wasn't ready to have any small talks with her. 

"I don't want anything," Ruby remarked. "I just wanted to check on you." 

Before Angella could say anything, she added, "The last time I saw or heard from you was four years ago when—" She stopped midway and sounded very hesitant. 

Angella knew exactly she was implying to and she was sure that Ruby was purposely trying to hit her weak spot. 

Though it had already been years, the betrayal still pinched her. She still felt flustered whenever someone mentioned it. 

But this wasn't the time to feel flustered or confused. She couldn't afford to show her weakness to anyone, especially Ruby, Logan or anyone remotely associated with them. 

"Let's cut the chase Ruby," She was in no mood to have a chit chat with her. "Why don't you tell me why you called so we can end this conversation soon." 

"It's Jammy's birthday next week," Ruby remarked. "Logan and I would really appreciate it if you come."
