Academy Packs

Wen Yu woke up to the general alarm bell. The other boys were already up and he didn't bother to ask why neither Qi San nor Huo Lan tried to wake him up.

They must have been really worried seeing him covered in blood last night. He quickly freshened up and just as he was about to head to the canteen, the aforementioned boys trudged in with a tray full of food.

"Big bro Yu, you're finally awake." Qi San said with a relieved smile as if he had just seen his saviour.

Wen Yu accepted the tray with a thank you while he wondered what was up with Qi San again.

He looked behind Qi San and froze a bit. Duyi was right there. Why didn't the kid leave early like usual? He examined the kid's face for a short while before looking away. The kid looked okay enough.

So he shrugged and kept on eating. Even if there was something wrong, the kid might not necessarily tell him if he asked anyways. Might as well save himself the awkwardness.

The boys soon finished up and were prepared to leave. Duyi was empty handed, Qi San had a medium sized backpack and Huo Lan had a luggage full of necessities.

'...' Wen Yu was dumbfounded. Was the kid going on a mini vacation? He just shook his head as he grabbed a milk packet, ready to head out.

"Big bro Yu, where's your stuff?" Huo Lan asked.

The question he was awaiting. "I don't think they'd let us bring our own stuff. We're not clear on what we're going to face so how would we know the right stuff to bring?"

Qi San froze and Huo Lan looked outright dismayed. The boys looked over to Duyi and noticed he didn't have any luggage prepared too.

They sighed. As expected of geniuses, always knowing the right thing to do in any situation.

"Can't compare. Really can't compare, " Qi San muttered continuously as he unpacked his backpack.

Wen Yu just smiled at Qi San's antics and looked over to the attendant boy. The others might not know but he was sure the reason Duyi was empty handed was because he really didn't have anything to pack.

The stuff he had brought in with him when they all moved in was not actually his but spare stuff for Han Zihao.

There was a limit to what each cadet could bring with them into the Academy and again, Han Zihao found a loophole around this by making Duyi bring in his extra stuff.

He really disliked that Han kid.

Good thing the Academy handed out three pairs of uniforms to them and stipulated that they were to wear only those for the duration of their stay, else, he was sure Duyi would have gone naked.

Such a pitiful kid.

Truthfully, he was also not sure if the Academy was going to hand out survival backpacks to them. The only reason he chose not to bring any stuff was because he didn't want the pitiful child to feel alone.

He might not like children that much, but anybody would be soft hearted if they had to personally experience all the kid had gone through like he did.

If the Academy didn't hand out backpacks, he'd look for a way to sneak back and get Qi San and Huo Lan's stuff.

Supporting Duyi was his choice. He didn't need to drag the others into it.

The boys soon arrived at the field and Wen Yu could barely contain his shock and amusement. Some of these kids were really too pampered.

They went as far as to change out of their uniforms, wearing trendy clothes and glasses with their automated luggage boxes suspended right beside them.

Did they think that just because they were leaving Lingxiu, they no longer had to wear uniforms?

Wen Yu couldn't bear to look at these disgraceful kids anymore and bowed his head with a helpless smile.

A Spirit master soon arrived and Wen Yu was glad it wasn't the silly Elder Gu. The Spirit master looked at the pre-enrolled cadets and it was hard to miss the mocking smile in his eyes.

"The Academy has prepared special backpacks for you all but if you feel it isn't suitable, you might as well just ignore it."

The pre-enrolled cadets just ignored the Spirit master. How could the stuff the Academy prepared be much better than the stuff they had painstakingly prepared for themselves?

And the pack looked so small, how much could fit in there? Tsk! In the end, no one could treat you better than yourself.

Out of the hundreds of cadets, only Wen Yu and his roommates stepped out to take the special pack the Academy had prepared.

Wen Yu was itching to know what was inside but now wasn't an appropriate time. Wen Lin was confused as to why her brother had taken the Academy pack.

When she saw the kids around her laughing and sneering at her brother and his friends, she grit her teeth and proudly grabbed one too.

How dare they laugh at her Ah Yu?! Her eyes met Wen Yu's and when he winked at her she giggled and walked over to him and his friends.

She reached out to tousle his hair. "Ah Yu, don't be sad okay?"

Wen Yu: '...' Who taught her this rogue behaviour? He was a grown man ah!

He flipped his hair to rearrange the messy strands and glared at her. Wen Lin only laughed happily and pinched his nose.

"Ah Yu is so cute."

Wen Yu: '...' Kill me.

'Pfft.' Qi San and Huo Lan were barely holding back their laughter behind him. Their big bro Yu was always so aloof, it was refreshing to see him look so constipated.

Han Zihao and Xie Wei Da spotted them from afar and sneered. They said nothing but this was all it took for Fu Ting, their overzealous follower, and Fu Beiyong, his favour-currying illegitimate cousin, to walk over to the boys with judgemental frowns.

"Tsk. So poor you couldn't even afford your own stuff and have to leech on the Academy?"

"Fu Beiyong what is the meaning of this?" Qi San was already rolling up his sleeves as he asked this.
