The loud voices startled the children awake, while Mei-Mei was already familiar with everyone around, little monk tightened his arms around Chi Lian's neck. He was not good at interacting with strangers; so far the only person he trusted completely was his mother.
"It's okay baby," she bounced him up and down a bit, "These are members of our family and they won't hurt you." She assured him.
"Chi-Chi," her mother approached her eagerly, "Give me my grandbaby, I haven't seen him for a whole day." Mama Chi complained and she tried to take little Monk out of Chi Lian's hands. The little boy however refused, hanging on to Chi Lian like a spider monkey to a tree.
