Once Ye Fan had managed to escape and was far away from the Jade Factory, he stopped at a nearby underpass underneath a bridge and looked at the two gemstones he had in his hand.
"Haah... haah... I can't believe that I actually... managed to not only escape from the... factory, but also take the... Imperial Glass Jade from that idiot." Ye Fan repeatedly gasped for air as he spoke with disbelief in his voice.
Truthfully, he had never once expected for a single moment that an opportunity would present itself for him to escape from the factory like this, let alone also steal the Imperial Glass Jade from that brainless rich-second generation idiot.
Sure, he knew that he wouldn't actually die from the beating and knew he had luck on his side and all of that, but he had only believed that his luck would only come and help him out when he was faced with certain death...
Such as the times when he was almost brutally killed by that masked man, or when he was fed something extremely painful from Luna.
However, seeing as how both the power going off in the factory and the heavy rainstorm suddenly arriving had started to occur at the same time, he knew that wasn't the case whatsoever.
So that begs the question, why didn't his luck come through for him back when he almost got crippled multiple times overseas?
Although Ye Fan was slightly curious as to the reason why, he didn't question or cared about it all that much.
After all, the only thing that truly mattered to him was that he had managed to successfully escape and not humiliate himself during the process...
Unlike that time when he had to run away with that guy named Ling Feng or whatever.
So after fully catching his breath and looking at the two stones in his hand, which he knew he could definitely sell to a wealthy buyer and finally start building his connections in China once and for all, Ye Fan nodded with satisfaction and began walking to leave the underpass.
But before he could leave the underpass however, Ye Fan got a really strong feeling that he was about to be attacked by someone behind him.
So Ye Fan immediately ducked on the floor.
And not even a milisecond right after he had done so...
BOOM!
An imprint of a hand had suddenly formed on the side of the stone wall where he had been originally standing at.
"What was that fo-" As Ye Fan was hurriedly getting back up onto his feet and was shouting furiously at his attacker, he suddenly caught a glimpse at who his attacker was and abruptly stopped talking.
Why?
Because the one who had attacked him was none other than...
"Iris!" Ye Fan angrily yelled out.
Iris didn't respond back and simply stared at him in disgust.
"I don't get it, Iris! What could I have ever possibly done to you in the past that would not only make you want to betray me, but also make you attack me twice now?!" Since this was actually the first time Ye Fan had actually came face to face with Iris not as allies anymore, but as enemies now, Ye Fan asked the question he had long wanted to ask.
Of course, Ye Fan still had some doubts in his heart that maybe Iris still hasn't betrayed him yet and was keeping him in the dark about something, but considering that he had also seen Iris try to desperately proect that simp from that extremely beautiful silver haired girl back when he was with Gu Changsheng's dad, Ye Fan knew that couldn't be the case whatsoever.
"..." Iris still didn't respond back and continued to glare at Ye Fan as if he was the biggest scum in the entire galaxy.
Honestly, just looking at this vermin made Iris feel so revolted that she seriously wanted to just throw up now.
"Come on, tell me! I know it can't possibly be because of that simp from the Kuangge family because I-"
"I'll rip the tongue out of that filthy mouth of yours if you ever dare mention the Young Master's name in vain again." Iris couldn't keep her composure down any further once she heard Ronald being brought up and interrupted.
"Then tell me why you're willing to choose him over me! I'm stronger than him, have a better personality than him, look 10 times more handsome than him, and I can afford to spend more money than him. Plus look at you Iris, your entire body is almost completely bandaged up from the top-down! Have you ever been this injured once when you were still my right-hand woman?"
Although Ye Fan was certain of the fact that Iris didn't betray him because of Ronald or anything stupid like that, considering that he literally outmatches him in every aspect imaginable other than his connections in China, Ye Fan still wanted to throw shade at Ronald just so he can see if he can get Iris to accidentally slip and reveal some information about the true mastermind behind the scene.
Upon hearing what Ye Fan said, Iris couldn't help but scoff.
She had never quite understood why she had ever decided to even once follow, much less become his right-hand woman back in her previous life.
Like seriously, was she really that blind and ignorant back then?
The only positive thing that had ever came out of being this vermin's underling was the fact that she eventually got to meet Ronald.
If she could travel back in time to when she had first accepted to become Ye Fan's right-hand woman and meet her former self, then she wouldn't hesitate to kill her former self on the spot.
Nevertheless, Iris didn't want to continue dwelling about those things in the past for now, especially not now in front of this vermin, and so she pulled out her blue dagger from her hand to get ready to fight and retrieve the gemstones that she had originally came to take.
Seeing as how Iris had pulled out her dagger just now, Ye Fan couldn't help but become both shocked and confused.
After all, it looked like Iris had just seemingly pulled the dagger right from under her skin!
Now of course, Ye Fan has seen worse and more confusing things during fights before, but the main thing was that he could also tell that Iris was significantly much stronger than when he had last met her.
So strong in fact that he wouldn't even be able to scratch her at her current weakened state even if he was fully at his peak.
Luckily, this was also a great opportunity for him to test the threshold of his limits before his luck comes kicking in.
Taking that into consideration, Ye Fan soon quickly eased up and gently placed the two rocks down on the ground.
"Come at me, Iris. It's time for me to remind you why you chose to serve me in the first place." Ye Fan gestured for Iris to come at him and got into his fighting stance.
As soon as the last few words had escaped his lips however, he suddenly felt something hard touch his abdomen, and immediately found himself smashed up against the concrete wall afterwards.
And soon thereafter, his consciousness quickly began to fade.
The last thing he had heard before his consciousness had fully left him though was...
"Tch, vermin."
