"What?" Nti Anem asked.
"You said I was given a gift, right? What if it is to create life?" Ed asked.
"It would definitely not be it," Nti Anem said.
"You are quite sure," Ed raised a brow.
"The creator is called the creator for a reason. Life is a gift only she can give,"
"Then, the one who gave me such a gift that you have spoken of; is definitely not she,"
"Yes,"
"I see," Ed nodded, "I will still try,"
"It is taboo!" Nti Anem seemed slightly agitated.
"You are quite dedicated, aren't you?" Ed asked.
"You test me?"
"No. I wish to put back the life that leaves his body when you take out the eternal fire. But it is also good to understand you more. You are loyal. Time has not dented your loyalty and I wonder why. What you are loyal to on the other hand," he said and Nti Anem sighed. He seemed to calm down with that released breath and stared back at Ed.
"You are loyal are you not? The mist should have torn away all that you are till you seize to exist. That you still stand here conscious means a lot. How long you will still remain loyal to her though," Nti Anem said and the air around Ed became very dangerous.
"We should all have boundaries, should we not?" Nti Anem asked dangerously.
"Trying to create life is your bottom line?" he asked, "Your Monerus Brothers killed thousands of people to resurrect you. I did not think you had a moral line," he said and Nti Anem chuckled, lighting the tense atmosphere.
"No. I sold my moral line a long time ago, if such a thing even existed. I sold my moral line, yet I still walk beside her for almost an aeon. I don't think moral lines exist. If there is one, I wish to know why Prince Edward asks this of me," Nti Anem said and Ed turned silent. What was he trying to remind him of? He could not understand what who he is, has to do with this.
"Ah, a lot has already been lost to the mist, hasn't it?" Nti Anem seemed to realize that the Ed before him is not the same as back in their land. So many years are yet to come. It makes one wonder what would be left before he returned. At this state, would it be a good thing for him to go back? Isn't he too dangerous? As though reading his mind, Ed sneered.
"You should not worry about useless things. Will you take out his eternal fire or not?" Nti Anem asked.
"Fine, I will. After all, believe it or not, whatever you are doing is not creating life. It never will be. That kind of power cannot be gifted," he waved his hand and an unconscious Young Master Fu appeared between them. The Fu clan head tried to move forward, but a snap of Nti Anem's fingers froze him in place. He could not hear, talk or move. Panic had set root in his heart. Were they really going to kill his son while he watched? No matter what he had planned for, he could not have anticipated this.
The next moment, Nti Anem drew a sacred circle around the unconscious Young Master Fu. Symbols neither Ed nor the Fu clan head could understand were drawn on all poles.
"What language is this?" Ed asked.
"Lys, the language of the court of kings. No one is quite sure of its origins, When I served as an adviser... well, many languages breed many perspectives," he said and flicked his wrist, manifesting four bowls filled with water that tipped pouring the water softly to the cave floor continuously without end. He snapped his finger and Young Master Fu rearranged his crumbled body as though possessed. He unfolded, faced upward and stretched his hands and legs wide apart.
"Iliieseoi" he muttered and Young Master Fu's eyes and mouth shot open as he broke out into a sharp scream. His voice seemed to distort as time passed into a deep raspy voice as his eyes and mouth glowed a yellow only Ed could see as raging flames sipped out from within him, releasing its searing heat into the cave. If not for Nti Anem waving his hands in a spell, protecting those inside from the heat, being this close to a raw eternal fire could burn a person to dust.
"If you wish to do anything, life has left him," Nti Anem said. Ed closed his eyes and stretched himself into the body before him as Nti Anem extracted the last of the fire and placed it in a sealing box. The Fu clan head looked at his son's lifeless body and wished to break into a scream but could not. He did not feel this much pain when told of his daughter's death. Seeing it is different from hearing of it.
"Your highness," Nti Anem called to Ed as he watched the lifeless body remain lifeless. He opened his mouth to speak but sighed instead. How can he tell him that even the one who gave him this gift has never been known to have created life?
Ed felt his way through the dark. It was not unfamiliar. In fact, it was so nostalgic he felt as though he had done this a thousand times. It was dark, but the dark felt like light to him. In the empty, he felt the spark leaving swiftly and touched it. Creating life? He would not dare claim such. Suspected that there was something to what he did in the Fu forest and he needed to find out. The spark in the distance got stronger and became attracted to his extended line. It grabbed unto the line like a fish to bait and returned to the body before it. Ed felt not only the spark change but the body too.
At that moment, he opened his eyes and Young Master Fu did so too, causing Nti Anem to freeze in place.
