First Day?

It was still night with clouds drifting above at a snails pace as a full moon hang solemnly in the sky, illuminating the land in a somber ghastly white glow.

Stirring from his sleep, he got up with much less difficulty and he appreciated the night air. A deep breath filled his lungs with the cold air and a smile curled on his lips as he appreciated the refreshing feeling.

For a few minutes, he stood in the middle of the crater, his hands akimbo as his mind thawed off the fatigue from his nap.

He took time to appreciate his body. It felt... different, almost as if he had trained and honed his muscles. He moved his arms around feeling for the earlier sourness. The motion was fluid, his arm feeling more alien to him.

He was brimming with strength and inturn confidence. Was this a perk of reincarnation? Maybe dying wasn't so bad.

After throwing a few practice fists he was satisfied with the state of his body and moved on to more pressing matters.

He swept his gaze across the night starry sky; it was beautiful with the moon hanging high and scattered clouds that added a somber tone to the night. This was it, his first day of his second life?

He sighed

"Feels like a dream".

To his left, green stretched as far as his eyes could see illuminated by the pale moonlight that glistened off the dewed grass, and to his right an impregnable cluster of trees that grew darker, ominous and mysterious the deeper he looked.

He sighed as he weighed his options.

Inexperienced in the ways of outdoors, he trusted his judgment only so much. He decided to rely on his gut feeling, and it begged for safety and the comfort of canopy.

"Forest it is"

He made his way towards the forest in slow measured steps appreciating more of the beauty of the night.

The forest grew more imposing as he approached it with trees looming many meters above his head and the scent of moist soil and fresh grass filled his lungs and lulled him into a sense of peace and security.

Slowly, he approached where the meadow met the forest and dove into the underbelly of it's thick canopy and his heart skipped a beat.

The edges of the forest opened up to a world very different from that of the meadow.

The vegetation was covered in even more dew, the vibrant forest flora glistened under the rays of moonlight that broke through the canopy. The air was cooler and fresher with the scent of grass and moist soil becoming hefty.

Along the forest floor, bushes rattled as small animals scurried away—too fast for his eyes to examine them—apprehensive of the intruder.

The flapping of wings stole his gaze to the top of the trees where birds of different colors and form flew away, alarmed by the alien presence.

He felt many eyes bore into him as he walked deeper into the forest along a grassless, yet wet, trail.

The call of the animals, the flapping and singing of birds and the myriad scents all filled him with a peace he had not experienced before.

The deeper he went the darker it became, however, not too dark that he couldn't see the immediate ground, but dark enough that anything beyond his immediate field of vision was hidden in a veil of mysterious if not ominous shadows.

It was unsettling and invoked a deep sense of apprehension, yet the myriad of vibrant colored flora doused this feelings as he made his way along the trail.

The forest made for a sight.

He appreciated the scenery, arching his head to have a better view of the roof of the forest.

The occasional rattling of bushes startled him and stole his gaze, reminding him to stay vigilant qnd not too taken in by it's beauty.

He maintained sight of his priorities amid the sensory overload; food, water and a place to camp out his fatigue.

He was alone and devoid of any knowledge on this new place, that was already a big disadvantage; coupled with his lack of outdoors experience, it placed him on a back foot. He needed to be careful and mindful of his surroundings that much he knew, and he begun to regret is ineptness.

"I hope this new world has internet, 'how to survive in the woods' would work wonders for me", he ruefully said to himself as he picked up his pace along the barren stretch of ground.

He kept his ears peeled for any sound of rushing water, or the characteristic sounds of civilization, letting optimism take front seat.

The light of the meadow dimmed and he allowed his thoughts to wander.

"I should have watched the nature channels more, who would have thought i'd spawn in a forest", he complained under his breath, as he tried and failed to come up with a viable solution for his noisy stomach.

He groaned into the night loosing most of his earlier enthusiasm, how was he to find anything edible?

The bushes around him all bore fruits; some resembled berries and were familiar to him, others had slightly weird forms that he was too scared to explore.

He picked some of them and it was then it dawned on him, " I have been NAKED THIS WHOLE TIME??"

He screamed into the night in shock and embarassment. "How did i not fucking realize?"

It was an enigma that he was too embarassed to solve, he needed to cover up. Diving behind a nearby bush, he harvested leaves from a low hanging branch and used a strip of vine to fasten them into a makeshift skirt.

Once that was solved and the red of his cheeks faded, he begun to wonder, "I thought i had clothes on?"

He forced himself to remember the moment after he woke up, had he not inspected his whole body? How is it then that he missed something so... Important.

That coupled with how he still didn't feel cold, it was like his body was even more resilient than he had initially thought. Normally he would feel overjoyed, yet he felt only confusion.

Maybe he was loosing his mind? There was also the chunk of empty memory in his mind. He for some reason couldn't remember what happened what happened before he woke up in the meadow.

Were this the side effects of reincarnation. It became even more apparent he was completely clueless of his new circumstances.

"Scary", he couldn't help but conclude.

Walking forward with even more apprehension, he begun to move more vigilantly. Suddenly the forest didn't look and feel so magical.
