Now That, I Did Not Expect

Grunt: "You know that what you've done just might as well get you fired"

Evelyn: "Oh shut up and help me kill this thing, Cyborg"

Grunt: "Watch yourself, you'll be at deaths door if you keep blabbing your damn mouth"

Evelyn: "Please. The closest thing you've done to actually be relevant for once is when you licked a guy's shoes"

Grunt: "I lost a fair fight that day and it just so happens that the guy I lost to is egotistical maniac! And besides, I'm pretty sure that I have better chances at killing that thing than you do. A hunter from the lowest class who doesn't even have any equipment, what do you have that I don't, huh?"

Dalie: "A hint of actual pride and a family that visited them at the hospital when they lost several limbs all at once!"

Dalie, who came in all of the sudden, immediately starts going to some VERY personal places.

Grunt: "I never told you anything about that"

Dalie: "Eh Well, It doesn't take a bunch of mechanical parts and a grumpy face with a neglectful childhood to know the difference"

Evelyn: "... And I thought I was getting personal"

Dalie: "Hah! Funny, keep hoping. Now let's go grab our rookie outta here"

Evelyn: "We're not killing the monster?"

Dalie: "The only place that will get affected in that things rampage is a community of people who live in poverty. Chances like that is an opportunity to the Higher-ups AND the government! They've been planning to just kill them all for 10 years now. Today just so happens to be a small crumb of that"

Evelyn: "Wow, I know you can get really unpredictable but I REALLY didn't expect that at all"

Dalie: "You have the agency and this wretched county to blame. The more you know"

They rush past over the yellow line and spot Irene face planted on the ground.

Dalie: "She's not dead right?"

Evelyn: "Just out like a light... Again"

Dalie: "Good, now let's drag her to the car. The Higher-ups just left the perimeter and we're expecting a full blown explosion by the time this thing reaches its full capacity"

Evelyn: "You mean that thing's self-detonating!?"

Dalie: "Less babbling and more running, let's go!"

They drag Irene to the car while everyone else starts leaving.

Driver: "What happened? Why's everyone in a hurry?"

Dalie: "There's a ticking time bomb that's about to blow our asses to shreds. Now drive!"

Higher-up 3: "W-wait for me!"

Dalie looks out the windshield just as they were about to drive off and spot one of the Higher-ups running to them.

Dalie: "Holy Shit. They left the new guy without even hesitating! BAHAHA!"

Evelyn opens the door and he goes in quickly in fear. Like a stray dog left by their owner on the highway.

Dalie: "Say, I know this is not the time but what the hell did you do to piss them off so that they can just leave you like that!?"

Evelyn: "He tried ordering Cyborg guy to turn off the barriers. I'm pretty sure that wasn't favorable to the rest of the Higher-ups"

Dalie: "A new guy going againts those old pyschotic assholes? Might as well call it a suicide attempt because who ever you just disobeyed will come back to bite your ass of your position. It's not easy to find a replacement but... I'll let them know I'm more than eager"

Evelyn is rather interested on why he would do such a thing despite it being in exchange for something that isn't a pleasure to handle.

Evelyn: "...Why did you do it?"

Higher-up 3: "What?"

Evelyn: "You knew they won't just leave you with a slap on the wrist for disobeying your seniors. So why stick your neck out for her?"

Higher-up 3: "You don't know?..."

Evelyn: "Know what?"

Higher-up 3: "Irene Vale used to work in a fashion industry as a model. I have magazines of her on a glass shelf"

Now everyone is just baffled that they even forgot they were on the road driving away from a nuclear explosion.

Dalie: "So you're telling me you took the bullet for Miss Vale cause you're fucking obsessed with a bunch of pictures of her!?"

Dalie actually thinks he's just a simp but she didn't want to out him just like that. And then-
