CHAPTER 18: SILLY ESCAPE

Die " A hoarse voice whispered, in the eerily quiet cell room.

Ravenna's eyes flew open in alert, roaming around in search of whoever it was.

She had been locked in here for a few hours now and to be honest she wasn't in the best shape to do anything, so resting was her best option.

but now she couldn't even do so they just wanted her dead

' Die ' the voice whispered again, like a viscous cackle mixed with hissing , she couldn't even properly describe it.

She sat up with speed, though every where was dark with no single ray of light, Ravenna has been trained to use her other senses in the dark.

She sensed something move by the corner and she immediately sprang towards that direction with calculated speed and agility, but she still ended up hitting air.

Fear of the unknown gripped her, but she still remained calm, with the understanding that whatever this thing was it definitely isn't human.

" DIE ! " A hand shot out from behind her, tightening around her neck and pushing her against the wall. Ravenna struggled to breath, fighting for her life scratching and flailing,

but you can't fight what you can't see, not to talk of the strength applied on her neck.

A high pitched scream filled the entire place, almost damaging her already bad ears.

Her consciousness starting to slip before she suddenly sucked in deep breaths, and as if pulled out of somewhere suffocating, she awoke with a stuttered gasp, looking around for any possible threat.

' was it a dream ? ' Ravenna covered in her own sweat, shuddered at the thought of the nightmare she just had.

Releasing laboured breaths that almost blew out the small lamp close to her cell room she collapsed back on the ground.

even her nightmare wouldn't spare her, this was retribution for all the bad deeds she had done....

Unaware of the red bruises that had come to form around her neck, a sign that someone actually tried to kill her, Ravenna believed it was all a dream.

The ache in her chest reminding her of the gap that had created itself there like a room for something.

She briefly assesed her weak body and shook her head. if she doesn't tend to it in the next few hours the wounds would begin to fester, this would become a huge problem.

Not to mention she wouldn't be given food for a month.

' so they wanted her to starve to death ' Ravenna gritted her teeth, recalling the moment where the high official had striked her on the face.

' she couldn't stay trapped here , never ! ' She clenched her fist in anger.

she could definitely survive a few days without food, but months?

by then she would become food for rats and insects. Besides she had some scores to settle with Leo and to do that she needed to be prepared before the next full moon.

He wasn't the legendary theif for nothing, the man was powerful, but everyone had a flaw. This, Ravenna knew very well.

She still couldn't believe she had lost the ability, she once had and had mastered like a second face.

she still couldn't comprehend how or what had caused things to be like this, it was as if to remind her she was still a female.

Everything was once again changing, and she didn't like the direction at which things had taken.

something inside her was changing, very slowly and she dreaded whatever it was.

She could see a fragment of what's to take place in the nearest future...., but it had only happened twice and she still couldn't understand it.

Her ability, the one thing that could ensure her safety from perverted men or the discriminating society was gone,

Her chest had created a hole which she had absolutely no idea about and it ached every now and then.

Her green eyes had turned more vibrant and the small patch of gray in the middle of her hair had turned almost white.

Stuck in a dungeon with no food, and unattended injuries, she was weaker than she had ever been in her entire life.

The smart, calculating Raven reduced to a mere slave,

' Pathetic ! '

It all started when Leo ordered for her to be killed, and Ryles actually killed her.

They killed Raven, and everything changed.....

she now lived as Ravenna... again.

" I need to leave this place " She internally made up her mind. Despite her current state of health.

Ravenna strained her ears, to listen to the sounds in and around the dungeon, for possible clues that could be used to her advantage.

from the sounds of rats running around to the constant shifting and breathing of other prisoners, to the flickering of the flame on the lamps, she heard faint sounds of crickets outside and there was something else she could hear, even though it was faint.

SNORING .....

She could hear faint sounds of snoring, and it came from the direction of the entrance.

" could the soldiers be asleep ? "

Ravenna's eyes shone at this information.

' it's now or never ' she reached for a pin she had hid in her hair. Swiftly reaching for the gigantic lock, she began picking the lock and it came loose in seconds.

Sneaking out was a peice of cake for Ravenna, despite her injuries, the prisoners were too immersed in their own misery to sense her presence, she didn't have to try too hard.

" How easy " She smirked, even though it hurt as the side of her face was still swollen from the harsh slap she had received.

Stepping out of the hole like entrance, she stealthily by passed the guards who had fallen asleep on duty.

' How odd, ' She wondered, how the guards were suddenly asleep at the convenient time for her to escape. Things never worked in her favour, this was a first.

It was night already, with the moon missing from it's usual spot, but Ravenna had no trouble seeing in the dark.

Though worn out, she mustered all the strength in her and jumped the fence with such swiftness, landing on the other side.

Unaware of the pair of eyes that had been following her since she made it out of the dungeon.
