Chapter 3: A rising crisis

On a different dimension, and a different timeline.

"I did it, I have slain the Demon Lord. Earth is safe, I can finally go home!" The man soaked in blood rejoiced.

Two hundred years, he was stuck in this godforsaken dungeon for two hundred years. He had no choice but to complete all one hundred floors of the tower in order to save Earth and forbid the monsters from escaping the tower and wreaking havoc in his motherland. However, to do that he must sacrifice himself and defeat the monsters before they can reach Earth.

But after two hundred years of fighting alone in the tower, he finally succeeded in completing all the floors as well as slaying the mastermind of the tower, which was the Demon Lord.

How did he get there, you ask? It all started back in China when Yun Xiao got betrayed by his brother, Yun Feng. He was forced to sell all his properties in order to pay his brother's gambling debts. Though Yun Xiao bore great hatred towards this brother of his, he bottled it all in and still paid for the debts.

He planned on looking for his brother, but his funds were slowly being drained until he had no money in his account anymore. None of his so-called friends helped him since they did not want to associate themselves with the people who took all his money.

Annoyed by the fact he got betrayed by his most trusted brother and friends, he landed a job on a construction site and vowed that if he ever find Yun Feng and managed to take his wealth back, he'll make all of them pay. He was too focused on thinking about ways to get revenge on them, he did not hear his coworkers shouting at him to not take a step forward. Alas, before he realized it, he fell right down the pitless hole that was in front of him.

He closed his eyes, completely giving up as if he waited for this moment to happen. The only regret his mind had at that moment was that he never got revenge on his stupid brother. But as he was falling down, a notification popped up in his head.

[Ding! New player detected. Accept mission? -yes- or -no-]

'Mission? What mission?' he thought.

[If you do not give an answer within ten seconds, you will cease to exist. -10-]

'Wait what?"

'What do you mean by 'cease to exist'? Am I gonna die?'

He felt his body become lighter and lighter until eventually he got teleported in front of a large castle gate. Two demonic statues guarding the large doors of the castle looked at him. As if they confirmed something, they swiftly moved to the side to let the door open. A gush of thick demonic aura enveloped his body, and Yun Xiao felt suffocated. He looked at the seemingly never-ending darkness inside the tower, he was uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. Though he accepted the mission, he was still reluctant to go. Going into that demonic tower with no armor and weapon, it's no different than committing suicide.

It's as if the system heard his thoughts it immediately sent a string of items to Yun Xiao, preferably ones that can be used in combat. Seeing how the system acted quickly, Yun Xiao was stunned. Though the items weren't considered very powerful, however, it was still better than nothing. He sighed as he did not have any choice but to instead accept the mission wholeheartedly and march towards the castle.

Those events happened two hundred years ago. Now he completed all the floors and gained countless skills.

[Congratulations player for completing the Tower of Chaos. Would you like to go back to Earth? -yes- or -no-]

Yun Xiao felt his body getting lighter, just like how he felt the first time the system teleported him in front of the tower.

Yun Xiao learned from the system about how different the time zone is in the Tower compared to Earth. One year on Earth is equal to 10 years in the tower. That meant that he did not go missing for long and instead was only missing for twenty years on Earth.

He got teleported in front of his past house, and though he sold all his properties, he managed to save his house from getting taken away, since he did not want his wife to be homeless. However, before the accident at the construction site, his wife ended up divorcing him. He did not blame his wife and chose to understand her, that was why he first wanted to see her after two hundred years. To his surprise, the caretaker of the house told him that she went on a vacation to the Philippines. He thanked the caretaker and ordered the system to teleport him to the exact location that she was at.

The system followed his orders and teleported him to Manila, Philippines, at Dolomite beach where his ex-wife was at. after minutes of searching, he found her...with his brother Yun Feng! He was furious looking at the couple, he stormed towards them and demanded an explanation from both of them.

And just as he expected, both of them were flustered when they saw Yun Xiao that has been missing for twenty years. However, since their faces were as thick as the dolomites on the beach, they regained their conscious and began to ridicule Yun Xiao.

"Brother! How delighted I am to see you are stil alive, I thought you starved yourself to death by now, seeing how broke you are. Haha!"

"Brother Feng, how can you still have that kind of confidence especially when you were the reason all my wealth is gone. Your face really is as thick as your stomach" Yun Xiao exclaimed.

"Yun Xiao! Enough! Don't make fun of Feng gege, when you left me, he was the one who comforted me through my toughest times." Mei Zhifei retorted.

"Fei'er, you were the one who divorced me first. Besides, I tried hard to earn my wealth back and even worked on a construction site, yet all you did was spend my remaining balance. Is your face perhaps thicker then Feng's face?" Yun Xiao debated.

"How dare you! This was why you got scammed easily-" Mei Zhifei's tongue slipped.

"What?" Yun Xiao looked at her in disbelief.

Yun Xiao then learned that the 'gambling debt' was only an illusion created by Yun Feng, he was jealous of his brother's wealth and decided to steal all of it by tricking him. He managed to hire pretend gangsters and loan sharks to pretend Yun Feng owes them money.

When Yun Xiao heard about this, he was fuming with anger, he went berserk and tried to harm the both of them. However, security was there and managed to break the fight up. But Yun Xiao wasn't satisfied, he cursed both of them to live in nightmare for the rest of their lives.

Everyone looked at him like he was crazy. They looked at him with contempt and disgust. This made Yun Xiao more mad.

'I spent two hundred years completing that tower for the safety of all of you! How dare you all forsake me like this! How dare you! You'll never get away, NONE OF YOU WILL EVER GET AWAY'

Yun Xiao waited till midnight for the crowd to disperse. He stood in the middle of the beach, casting a spell.

'Those who have sinned me, do not deserve to walk on the same planet as me. Let the monsters run amok in this place, let them tear their faces, let me hear their screams, let their soul be forever tormented. Come out my lovely pets, it's dinner time'

A violent earthquake shook the ground. The earthquake lasted thirty minutes, and the entire world could feel it. Just then, a crack showed up in front of Yun Xiao, the crack became bigger and bigger until eventually it became a void-like portal. The monsters heard the call of their master and came out.

"My precious pets, feast on them." Yun Xiao completely lost his mind.

Thus, the first portal was created.
