Chapter 14

Pei Yueran dragged her boxes into the master bedroom and began to unpack. The master bedroom was done in dark blue-green tones. It had a built-in bathroom, and the closet was large, built close to the bathroom. The bed, drawers and table were all made of mahogany wood and were artfully arranged so that the room was neither too large nor too cramped. She praised the design with a nod.

She put away her clothes and arranged everything else in their proper positions. She first sent a message to Director Zhou and Han Yichen, telling them that she had arrived and was settled. She then went on a mini tour around the apartment building.

The building itself had five floors, and each floor had two apartments on it. She wasn't sure if they were all three-bedroom apartments like hers. She was on the fourth floor. When she got up again, she changed the passcode and went in to check the other rooms.

The two other rooms were smaller than the master bedroom but they had all the necessary furniture and fixtures. She designated the one next to her room as Han Yichen's room. There was also a small room just before the dining room. She decided to use that as her study and indeed, she found a table and chairs inside when she went in. Very good.

She then took her documents and laptop to the study, setting them on the table.

After doing all that, her stomach growled, reminding her of her need to eat. She was not familiar with the city yet, but she figured she could order takeout without problems, so she looked up the nearest restaurant and ordered egg fried rice and shredded pork. The delivery came fast and she ate leisurely.

After resting for about an hour, Pei Yueran stood up and went back to the study to continue looking over the documents. Since she was supposed to help the Chairman get acquainted with the company, she decided to submit a report analyzing the growth of the Li Conglomerate over the last 10 years to the new Chairman.

By the time she finished, it was already 6pm. She stretched and stood up. Thinking that she needed to get a feel for her new workplace, she decided to go to the company immediately. She opened the Uber app and ordered a taxi after inputting her address and destination. The driver arrived in five minutes, and she left.

Li Chuanmo stepped out of the elevator on the thirtieth floor. Apart from the security guards he met at the entrance and the janitors that were cleaning near the elevator, there was no one else in the company. The company had a strict "no Sunday work" policy which, according to the yearly survey, most employees were grateful for, so the situation was expected. He chose to come at this time because he knew the company would be mostly empty.

The thirtieth floor had only two offices - the Chairman's office and an office that was formerly used at the beginning as a small hall for receiving foreign investors or very important business partners. However, as the Li Conglomerate grew more prosperous, fewer and fewer meetings were deemed important enough to be hosted in that hall, and now, with the advent of a new post, it was converted to the office of the Special Assistant.

The interior was slightly renovated to carve out a small space for the PA to the Special Assistant. It was directly across the office of the Chairman. Since they both had a common secretary, the desk of the secretary was put between the two offices, like that of a receptionist at a hotel lobby.

Li Chuanmo looked around and then proceeded to his office. It was standard, looking just like Li Qianye 's study at the villa. He declined the proposed renovations since he wasn't really keen about where he worked. He was more concerned about getting the job done, so he only took a cursory glance. He then left and headed towards the elevator.

As he was about to press the button for the parking lot, the door to the office of the Special Assistant opened.

Pei Yueran swore that she was only going to look around a bit, but she had a thing for the office setting. Once she saw a desk and chair, together with a computer, she was hooked.

She first of all walked to the desk and stroked her name plate. A Special Assistant title didn't sound like much, but to her, it was a dream come through. Even though the person she was "assisting" wasn't her longtime mentor, she was still eager to work and learn from him in close proximity.

She then sat down and plugged in the computer. She then started working, looking up the details of the contract she was going to discuss with the Chairman the next day. She also gained new insight to the company and modified the report she wrote before coming. Before she knew it, two hours had passed since she arrived. She decided to stretch her legs a bit by going from floor to floor, checking the general layout and organization was the same as filed in the company's database.

The elevator was directly opposite the desk of the secretary, so as she walked in that direction, she noticed light coming from the elevator from the corner of her eye. Startled, she looked up and saw a man clad in a black suit, his eyes fixed in her direction.

At 170cm, Pei Yueran couldn't be called short, but this man looked like he was easily 185cm. If she could describe him in one word, it would be "aristocratic". In two, it had to be "powerful aura". In three words, he was definitely "tall, fair and handsome". These thoughts flashed through her mind even as she walked forward.

Her last thoughts before she spoke up were "his official pictures do not do him justice" and "are those contacts he's wearing?"
