The wind seemed to have breathed new life into Sophie. Its invisible embrace surrounded her as it blew by. It carried the scent of Theo, and as soon as the fragrance reached her nose, she was swiftly awakened from her trance-like state.
Along with everyone else gathered around her, she had been affected by the same predicament.
The loud cracking of drums was suddenly heard in the distance. Everyone turned their heads to the sound where they saw Daniel walk in. His face was serious, his jaw clenched, and he made a point to not make eye contact with anyone.
He entered the circular arena, and before Martha could utter a word to the crowd, out came Theo.
Theo strolled down with confidence. He looked so calm, but something told her that deep down, he was anything but calm. Their eyes made contact, and for a second, she was frozen. Theo blinked as he walked by as if he had broken the spell he cast on her.
