Chapter 20: Cade Appears

“I’m sorry.”

Rose looked up from her desk to find Cade in her doorway. She was angry with him for bailing on his date but happy to see that he was in one piece. “Cade.”

He walked into her office as if he were walking into a lion’s den. She would have been amused by that if she hadn’t been mad at him. He seemed a little afraid of her. She didn’t have a temper, but he must have dealt with women in the past who did.

“Sit down,” she said.

She had to compose herself because it wouldn’t be professional to go on a tirade with Cade. She stared at him for a moment. His gaze didn’t waver from hers and she gave him kudos to him for that.

“I’m sorry that I stood up the date you set up. I had a lot of thinking to do and I left my phone at home. No excuse I know. I should have been an adult about it, but I wasn’t. I have no explanation other than that.”
