Chapter 1: Prologue

A young man can be seen in the living room of an apartment, lying on the couch, seemingly lifeless. The man's eyes started to flutter open slowly, giving room to see their bright amber colored pupils that still seemed muddled and confused.

After a few seconds of him gazing around the room with his clouded eyes, he began to refocus his gaze, before being stunned at the sight before him. His eyes had ended up resting at the reflection being shown off the window next to his TV screen.

The man in the reflection had brown hair, pale white skin, deep set eye bags, a frail body, a gray T-shirt with what seemed to be grease stains on it, and a pair of blue jeans and ordinary socks.

After a few seconds of total silence, the man screamed while jumping off the couch while pointing at the reflection in the mirror.

"Who are you!" he shouted, while the reflection mirrored his actions as it was supposed to.

After hearing no response, the young man, as if finally realizing something, approached his reflection, before making different gestures in order to confirm his wild, yet most likely reality.

"Wait, that's totally me? But shouldn't I be dead by now?"

After such strange words came out of his mouth in a strange yet casual manner, the man finally began to properly take in his surroundings for the first time.

He was in a run down apartment, with clothes strewn everywhere with some having obvious stains here and there. Some of the paint on the white colored walls looks dull in some places, and is peeling in others.

There was only a TV and coffee table in his living room, with one window. There was an extremely small bathroom off to the side on his right, which had only a toilet, a sink with a mirror hanging over, and a small shower with no tub.

On his left was a small closet to hold his clothes and possible valuables, with his clothes already being strewn everywhere being a testament to its usefulness.

Finally, there was a small kitchen in the back with two stoves, a fridge that hopefully has some food, some cooking ware with some plates and cups, a small wooden dining table and a kitchen sink, that was definitely never used if all of the dust was to go by.

'Where am I?' the man questioned himself.

'And who am I?' he wondered while taking another glance at his reflection, even going so far as using the bathroom mirror to get a better look.

It was at this time that he heard a sound reminiscent of a computer fan, prompting him to take a look at his surroundings again in alarm, only to be met with nothing new that he hadn't already determined was present.

[Scanning surroundings…]

[Scanning Owner…]

[Scanning memories…]

[Memory shock detected!]

[Downloading back-up memories to Owner…]

Suddenly, a huge amount of data and information began being downloaded into the young man's mind as he stumbled down onto his couch, not being able to understand what was going on right away.

After a while, when his head no longer hurt, he suddenly became extremely calm, and no longer questioned himself before he took a deep breath and let out a huge sigh.

"I see. So I didn't die in that hospital bed, but was taken here by force before my death and healed up to an 'acceptable' degree. So, I'm still Roman Zackery."

The man, now identified through his name as Roman, began pacing back and forth in his new living room, trying to organize his thoughts as best as possible in order to better understand his situation.

"So, I couldn't recognize myself thanks to my slightly different appearance and never having a chance to use a mirror."

"Yet, how does it make sense to erase the appearances of my friends and families, instead of taking away those memories all together?"

"Whoever it is left all the other memories untouched too. So, basically everything but the personal ones. Is there a point to doing something like that?" He spoke, no longer bothered about his surroundings.

After a preliminary understanding of his surroundings. He looked at the window in his room in order to better understand what's going on, only to be petrified when he saw what was outside.

Absolute darkness.
