Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Six

Perspiration gathered on her forehead as they neared the house. Once or twice, she'd caught Louis looking at her sister but she'd given it a dismissive shrug. Perhaps he was still in awe at how Isabella had managed to survive everything she'd been through. Or maybe there was more. She was not too sure. 

The car swerved right past the busy part of the city and was hidden away from the rays of the reddish sunlight by the long shadows of the houses that lined the way. 

Rachel sat up as they approached her block. She had a tingling feeling in her nerves. She wondered what it meant. A moment later, she found out. 

Right outside the porch, standing next to the huge pillar that distinguished her house from the others was a man she could have recognized even on the darkest night.
