Chapter Forty Seven: The attack on Prescott.

A few hours later, Clementine and the others finally reached the imposing gates of Prescott.

The journey had been long and perilous, but the prospect of safety behind those walls kept them going.

As they arrived, a group of guards, vigilant as ever, approached to question the newcomers.

Clementine stepped forward confidently, addressing the guards, "It's me, Clementine.

After a brief exchange, the guards recognized her and opened the gates, allowing Clementine, Javi, and his family inside the fortified community.

Clementine turned to Javi, her expression serious.

Clementine: "Javi, I've got something to do. I'll be right back."

As Javi and his family explored Prescott, Clementine ventured into one of the makeshift shops within the community. She approached the shopkeeper, a scowling man who had traded her bullets and a gun for her batteries earlier.

Clementine called out to him, her tone stern, "Aye, those bullets and that gun you gave me for my batteries aren't working."

The shopkeeper responded callously, "Well, that's not my problem."

Clementine, undeterred, patted him on the shoulder and demanded a refund.

The shopkeeper scoffed, "You can't have a refund, little girl. Now run off."

Just then, Clementine heard commotion coming from outside and rushed to investigate. Javi and his family quickly joined her.

Javi urgently spoke, "We've got to go."

Clementine, puzzled, asked, "What's wrong?"

Javi's face was grave, "Walkers, and there are a lot of them. They're trying to break in."

Clementine considered the situation, believing the guards would handle it, but Javi's next words shattered her confidence.

Javi: "The guards are dead. Someone infected got inside and bit them."

Clementine cursed under her breath. She sprinted to the nearby truck, started the engine, and Javi and his family hurriedly piled in. Suddenly, a nurse leaped into the van.

The nurse shouted at Clementine, "Go, go, go!"

Clementine floored the gas pedal, the van roaring to life as it plowed through a few walkers, leaving the chaos of Prescott behind as they made their hasty escape.

The van sped away from Prescott, leaving behind the once-safe haven now overrun by walkers. Tension filled the air as the group tried to catch their breath and make sense of the sudden chaos.

Clementine glanced at the nurse who had jumped in, still gripping a bloodied scalpel. She wore a panicked expression.

Clementine: "Who are you, and what happened back there?"

Nurse: "I'm Eleanor, one of the nurses. It happened so fast. One of the infected sneaked in, and chaos erupted."

Javi's family, still reeling from the shock, listened intently to the nurse.

Eleanor: "We were overwhelmed, and I saw you were getting away, so I took a chance. Thank you for not leaving me behind."

Javi: "We couldn't just leave you there."

Clementine: "Unlike javi, I've learned not to trust anyone easily in this world."

Eleanor, her face filled with a mix of understanding and disappointment, nodded.

Eleanor: "I get it. Trust is hard to come by these days. I hope I can prove myself."

Clementine nodded at Eleanor, and a few hours later, Clementine and Javi parked the van in the abandoned town, their supplies running low. They knew they needed to find food and water to continue their journey.

As they ventured into the desolate streets, they encountered two more people, who cautiously approached.

Stranger 1: "You folks looking for supplies too?"

Javi exchanged a glance with Clementine and then replied, "Yeah, we're in need of some food and water."

Stranger 2: "Well, you're in luck. We've come across a stash of canned goods and clean water. We can share if you're willing to do the same."

Clementine, still wary, asked, "What do you need in return?"

Stranger 1: "Medical supplies. We've got someone who's hurt, and we're running low."
