The Countdown

Even though Raven was startled at first seeing the screen he quickly calmed down. After calming down he tried asking for any details regarding the countdown. After not getting any response he decided to not overthink and find out about it when the countdown hits zero.

So he just got into bed for a long needed sleep. While physically he didn't feel any exhaustion, the mental aspect was another story. After the robbery, the meteor and the countdown his mind was in urgent need of rest which was proven right when just by lying down Raven had fallen into deep sleep.

As Raven was sound asleep, the people around the world were in a constant state of panic due to the never before seen nature of skies and meteor. The governments were also in a dilemma with what was happening as they too had no clue. Well at least it was so until people started touching the meteors. So many people as well as those in power have come to know about the countdown. Even though they've come to know of it they still can't find anything concrete regarding what it meant .With the whole world shrouded in panic and curiosity about the event the sun rose from the horizon.

Raven who usually woke up at first light could only wake up at noon that day. Waking up he could feel a new sense of strength throughout his body. He also felt that his senses had grown. He looked at his hand to see the gem there to make sure what he had been through the previous day wasn't a dream. He looked around the kitchen to find some leftovers and decided to have them for lunch after all that was the best he could do now.

Taking the leftovers he went to couch and turned on the television for news regarding what happe d yesterday. And just as he had speculated the whole world seems to be in its heat. Every news station was covering something related to yesterday's events. Seeing someone talk about the countdown Raven thought,

'So i wasn't the only one who was stupid enough to touch an unidentified object crashing from the sky.'

Many seems to be just as curious as he was regarding the countdown. But not many seemed to know about the words before the countdown. So there were even people saying that it was the time left until the end of the world. As he went through different news stations it was interrupted by a sudden broadcast which seemed to come from the UN. A man who seemed to be someone with power was shown on a podium. He spoke,

"I am well aware that yesterday's events have put a vast majority of the population into panic. But as the representative appointed by the United Nations I am here to put a stop to rumours and fake news spreading amongst the people. While we have not been able to properly identify the cause of what happened we can assure you that it is not the beginning of the end, if anything we believe it to be the beginning of something new. It also has to be noted that only a select few who came into contact with the meteors has been able to access the countdown. So the only thing we could logically do at present is to wait for the time to reach zero and know what it's about from those that have access. "

Hearing this Raven realized why no one was talking about the words 'progenitor ascension to Gaia'.

'The government must have already dealt with those who came in contact with the meteor and made sure the public didn't know about it. Good thing I ran away before someone got to me.' Raven couldn't help but feel relief thinking about it.

But thinking about the various possibilities regarding the countdown Raven could help but wake up his inner nerd. After all, for someone who was too deep into studies with the only leisure activity being novels and fanfics his mind has already woven many theories regarding this.

' What could this countdown possibly be? The select ones being the chosen ones responsible for leading humanity in the games for gods? Or is it the coming of dungeons? Maybe an apocalypse? ' He couldn't help but think of all the possibilities.

His mind had already wandered off into distinct possibilities. Thinking of all these he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. He hadn't felt anything like this for a long time. At least not since his mother's death. He felt a spirit of adventure blooming inside him after a very long time. He felt like this was a chance. Whatever the gem and countdown was, one thing he was certain about was the fact that it would change the world. The power dynamics would shift and new chances would rise. While he wasn't sure, he felt that with this gem he would have that chance. A chance to reignite his faded dreams and to be ambitious once more. To aim high and reach it. He felt his whole body shudder with excitement.

He couldn't help but look at the portrait hung on the wall of him and his mother and say "Mom, I don't know what lies ahead, but if I get the chance I promise to live the life you wanted me to live. A life where I would dream and attain my dreams. A life where I live my dreams without regret. This I promise you." His eyes got cloudy with each word spoken as his mind couldn't help but wander through his memories with his mother. The only person who put his life before everything, including her own life. As Raven took a walk down memory lane the time also trickled down.

Within no time the sun had set. During that time Raven had already taken a shower, worn some decent clothes and sat back on his couch waiting for the countdown to end. Similar scenes can be seen in multiple places around the earth. While they may not know what would happen they knew that it would forever change their lives.
