Chapter 12: Contention

Thane withdrew his hand from Eva’s. Looking at the two sisters, he could see the resemblance yet both clearly had a parent they took after. He had nowhere else to go, especially with how he spoke to Tim. In spite of everything going all to pot, he was both happy and relieved to see that Kate was okay.

Eva motioned to the bench Thane was sitting in. “Stop embarrassing yourself and sit down, Kate.”

Thane set Eva’s suitcase onto the floor below the table and moved over so Kate could sit.

Eva stared at Thane in confusion. “You can leave, Thane. This is a family matter.”

Kate sat down on the bench, avoiding eye contact with the Englishman. “He can stay. He doesn’t have anywhere to go.”

Thane looked at Kate in surprise by what she said. He knew she was unhappy, yet she put those emotions aside when it came to his well-being.
