Delilah jumped happily as she returned to her seat, a wide grin spreading across her face. Anastasia, only mildly curious, glanced at her for a moment. The boy Delilah liked had called her over during recess, and judging by her expression, it must have been good news.
Without dwelling too much on it, Anastasia turned back to her schoolwork, absentmindedly spinning her pencil between her fingers as she tried to focus on the question in front of her.
"Hey," Delilah suddenly pulled her chair closer to Anastasia. "Thanks."
Anastasia looked up, puzzled by the unexpected gratitude. "For what?"
"The letters," Delilah whispered with a beaming smile. "They worked."
"Really?" Anastasia replied, her reaction unimpressed since she had guessed as much from Delilah's earlier expression.
"Thanks for always being there with me," Delilah said again, her gratitude clear.
