The Unwelcome Agreement

I was excited and nervous at the same time when I arrived to Global Enterprises' headquarters the next day. Even after reviewing what I would say several times, I couldn't get rid of the unpleasant sensation. I felt like just another entrepreneur here, even though I was used to the Carter name opening doors. And it could have been a good thing. This was my opportunity to demonstrate my ability to create something on my own, even if it meant paying for it.

The large, glass-and-marble lobby has sleek, contemporary lighting. I inhaled deeply before approaching the receptionist, who gave me a polished grin.

She pointed to a nearby elevator and said, "Ms. Bennett, Mr. Evans will see you now."

"Thank you," I said, trying to seem composed despite my stomach turning over in anxiety.
