ch23-Tutorial (18) Merlins items

But nevertheless, the task had been completed, and this amount of wolf kills was more than enough to get 2 items from the army treasury. So, Oliver left the forest and made his way back to the inner city, the army camp.

This time around no one gave him any trouble, as Oliver basically walked strait into general Rolan's office. Where he was confronted by the comical scene of Rolan doing some paperwork.

Seeing Oliver walk in, a big burlap bag dragging behind him Rolan immediately put down he's reading glasses as he left the paperwork, walking towards Oliver.

"That is one hell of a bag you got there with you son, now then, let me have a look."

Oliver nodded as he handed to bag over. Looking into the bag Rolan fell silent, he had expected at most a thousand horns by the size of the bag.

But, seeing that only the tips of the horns were collected Oliver had clearly killed thousands of wolves, way more than he had ever expected.

"There are 7000 horns in those bags general, I don't want much, just 2 items from the treasury. I will wait for you to count them outside the office."

Oliver turned around to leave but was stopped by Rolan's ginormous hand clasping his shoulder.

"That won't be necessary boy, follow me."

Ralon threw the bag into the corner of the room before walking to the back of his office, where he lifted up a banner, revealing a thick metal vault door.

Placing his hand in the middle of the door Rolan started saying complex incantations as he gently moved his hand around.

Oliver recognized this door of course as not only being enchanted, but also having multiple grade 1 magic arrays on it.

It took a few minutes but the door finally opened, Rolan looking back at Oliver as he addressed him sternly.

"I will not be coming with you, you can take 2 items and 2 items only. I promise you, I will find out if you take any more than that."

Oliver nodded as he walked closer, a large metal staircase revealing itself, with magic lights lining the decent.

Oliver proceeded to walk down the staircase, and a little hall after that, lined with the same magic lighting, until he came face to face with yet another thick metal door.

Luckily this door was open, although it was pretty clear this door had opened only just now, as the dust covered floor was surprisingly clean next to it.

Walking into the treasury Oliver could see gold, jewels and much more for as far as the eyes could see.

Countless weapon racks, all lined with expensive looking weapons lined the walls something being interrupted by an armer stand, clad in shiny looking plate armer.

Oliver didn't really care about any of them though, as even though their appearance was rather flashy, the actual grade of all of this equipment was at max white grade with grade 1 enchantments on them. Nothing much.

So, ignoring most of the treasury Oliver proceeded to the smallest section, a small library hidden in the corner of the treasury. It seemed to be more dust covered than other parts, like it was neglected while cleaning.

There were 50 or so books in this library, well, it was more like a little book corner.

Oliver recognized each of these books as grade 1 spell books. In the world of the tutorial floor mages didn't use spells, or rather they didn't use first circle spells. If they sought to manipulate the elements they did so by pure force of their mana, which was incredibly inefficient.

All kinds of old trinkets, not one of them as shiny as the once outside of the book corner, laid on the floor.

Acknowledging that this was in fact the right place, Oliver started searching. Not between or in the piles of trinkets, no, he started moving the few shelves that held up the books, trying to look between and behind them.

Oliver started to get flashbacks to the search for the talent enhancing potion. He also knew exactly where merlins boots and his ring were, but for some reason they were hidden so well that he still couldn't find them.

He didn't give up though, and after basically throwing over all shelves Oliver finally saw them, an old dirty pair of boots that was previously ledged between the floor, wall and the sturdiest shelve of them all.

The weird thing was, was that the boots were dirty yes, but even thought they seemed to have been flattened for decades they looked in great shape once Oliver pulled them out.

Inspecting the boots Oliver got a large smile on his face, these were indeed the boots he was looking for.

[Merlins Boots]

Description: a rather ordinary looking pair of leather boots.

Of course it wouldn't be that easy, so Oliver used his only 4th circle spell, analyse, even then, only 1 more thing about them was revealed.

[Merlins Boots]

Status: sealed [5/5]

Description: a rather ordinary looking pair of leather boots, with a deeper secret within.

Satisfied Oliver put the boots in his bag, unlocking even the simplest of seals would likely take days, the time wasn't right. So, he started looking for the ring.

He moved away from the library section, that he had left in shambles and moved towards another corner of the treasury, 5 armer stands standing next to each other.

At once Oliver threw all armer stands on the ground, revealing the poor condition of the wall behind them.

Not only were they dirty they were basically falling apart. Oliver didn't focus on that though, he simply glanced down, where a small hole could be seen.

'Got you.'

Not waiting a moment more Oliver plunged his hand inside the hole, and started chaotically rummaging around.

It was only 5 minutes later that his frustrated face lit up.

"GOT IT"

Pulling out his hand Oliver was holding a lot of things, mainly rat poop and dust, but amongst them was an old plain silver ring.

Oliver didn't bother normally inspecting them and directly used the 4th circle spell analyse.

[Merlins Silver Ring]
