The Tomes of the Lost Mage

This novel won't have any more work put into it. I found a lot of flaws with my writing and didn't like the direction. My new book, The Elemental Gems, will be getting updates and features the same characters with some tweaks to personalities and the magic system. *The book cover is NOT my work, and was found on Pinterest. If the owner wishes me to remove it, I will do it.*

The Choice of the First Path

When Ojero opened the Tome, he saw only empty pages.

Confused, Ojero pulled back to get a better view of the book.

"Have patience." Ryan said, the sound echoing through his helmet.

Only a few seconds later, the page began to change. Words formed upon the paper in a black ink.

'Wow! I never knew Tomes wrote themselves! I always assumed it was your own magic that wrote the book!'

Reading his thoughts, Ryan spoke up.

"Tomes are a strange thing that defies categorization as an item, nor an animal. It seems to be both, and neither. It uses your own magical abilities, and amplifies and twists it to be in line with whatever its own needs."

It was at this moment that the Tome stopped writing, and Ojero read it all to himself.

'This Tome belongs to Ojero Guestino, of the house Guestino.'

'Through your mind and your will wonders shall be achieved'

Strength: 3

Agility: 5

Charisma: 6

Intelligence: 7

Willpower: 8

Ojero stared at all the information, but didn't understand much of it. Luckily, the paladin stepped in to offer some insight.

"The Tome shall list all of the elements you have either some, or a lot, of potential with. Beneath that it will list your attributes. The average human has a five in all of them, but most have varying numbers. Through your progression you will be able to gain more attribute points."

"We know very little about how it all works, but the most popular theory is that when growing your magical strength not all of it converts to the element it is supposed to, with the extra being raw energy that your body absorbs. This energy then stimulates growth in whatever area you send it to."

"Currently, all of your elements should be unachieved, but once you begin practicing they will all be at the Apprentice stage, the first stage of magic. Through practice and advancing in their relevant progression trees you can advance your magics, granting you increased strength in that element and a new tree."

Hearing all of this, Ojero was momentarily confused. It all seemed like a lot, and there seemed to be lots of unknowns concerning the science behind magic.

However, Ojero decided to ask more questions since Ryan was forthcoming with knowledge.

"What are progression trees?"

"Focus on one of your elements, young one." Ryan replied.

Doing that, Ojero chose the Shadow element to start, and all the words on the page melted away into the book.

'What? Did I do something wrong? Where did all the words go!?'

Suddenly, words started to reform on the page, forming a strange diagram.

[Time Magic]

(Unachieved)

-Activate Time Magic-

-Choose A Path of Time-

→→↓→→→→→→↓→→→→→→→→↓

-Stasis- -Controller- -Sight-

Ojero couldn't help but gasp at the newly formed diagram. It showed him the first few steps of Time magic, and could tell there was more, as the majority of the page was blank.

'Maybe it all depends on which path I choose? But what does each path do?' Ojero thought.

As if the Tome could hear his words, the words again faded away, and soon came back.

[Stasis]

Stasis Time Mages are masters at stopping the flow of time. As their power increases, so does their area of effect and the amount of time they can uphold their abilities. Through their progression, Stasis Time Mages can become terrifying enemies, stopping time and doing whatever they wish. This, however, is not the limit of their power. To learn more, choose this Path of Progression.

[Controller]

Controller Time Mages wish to control everything around them, slowing down and speeding up time to assist them no matter the situation. These mages are able to dabble in both Stasis and Sight Time Magic, but this requires much more effort than choosing the paths on their own. This, however, is not the limit of their power. To learn more, choose this Path of Progression.

[Sight]

Sight Time Mages are often confused with Seers and Prophets, but the truth is their abilities are far different. They can not only see, but change the future with their powers, altering outcomes and destiny itself. This path is often seen as the most confusing, and one of the hardest magics to master, but their potential is equally as impactful. This, however, is not the limit of their power. To learn more, choose this Path of Progression.

After Ojero finished reading them over, he began to think.

'Which one would I choose? Each of them could help me greatly, but I only get one… So which should it be?'

Here is a chapter! Slightly shorter than usual, but I'll make it up for tomorrow! Which path do you think Ojero should choose for Time Magic???
