My grandparents live on Bourbon St. As I walk down the street my heart starts to pound. I knock on the door and the waiting is killing me. My grandma opens the door and I smile, she looks exactly like I remember. Her sandy like hair color and her rosy cheeks.
"Well hello darling, isn't this a lovely surprise."
"Hi grandma"
"Well, don't just stand there, come in!"
" Who was it dear?" My grandfather comes down the stairs.
"Hi grandpa." I smiled at him
"Hello Mari.. it's good to see you but what are you doing here?" You can tell he was confused.
"I had to leave." Now their both confused
"What do you mean darling"
"Dad got worse, he started getting abusive" I said lowly with my head down. My grandmother gasped and my grandfather just stared into the distance
"So I left, got on a bus and came here. Can I stay, I don't want to go back there."
"Of course you can stay cub." I smile at the old nickname, my favorite animal as a kid was a bear so my grandfather started calling me cub.
"Your old room is still there, we can go to the shops tomorrow, redecorate it if you want?"
"I would love that, thank you grandpa."
"Go on upstairs, after you're settled we can eat, I bet you're hungry. We can even bake some cookies." Grandma is an amazing baker and cook, I'm surprised she doesn't own her own bakery or restaurant.
I nod and head upstairs. Everything is exactly the way I left it. Even my guitar, I haven't played in what feels like ages. I throw my bag on the bed and pick up the guitar. I play a song that was my favorite as a kid. 'love bug" by the Jonas Brothers. I start strumming and just let the music take me out of reality. When I'm finished I walk down stairs.
-Mary's POV, aka grandma-
Looking up towards where Marlene's room is I say, "I haven't heard that sound in a while." I missed having Mari here, she was and still is so filled with life. She can light up anyones day with just a smile.
"It's nice having her here again" Aaron said while he was helping me set up for dinner. Just when he says that she comes down the stairs.
"Right on time, dinners ready."
-Marlene's POV-
As I come downstairs grandma says to me, "Right on time, dinners ready" We talk as we eat dinner
"If you're gonna stay here we need to talk about what school you're going to go to this upcoming year." We only have about a month left of summer vacation, so I guess they wanted to register me so I can go on the first day.
"Well, can't I just go to the local one with Harper?" We would be in the sam grade because even though I'm older, it's only by a couple months so we started school around the same time.
"If that's what you want then of course. I'll go to register you next week." We just continue to ramble then me and grams go make some cookies. And we call it a night.
-Marlene's Dream-
"Goodbye love, I'll be back soon. Don't forget to take your vitamins" I hear as I sit up
"...Mom?"
"Yes love, you okay?"
"Um yeah"
"Alright see you soon." She pushed my hair back and kissed my forehead.
I think for a second, if she doesn't leave then dad doesn't change. He would still be loving and caring. "Wait, please don't go"
"I have to love, but I will be back, take care of your father." With that she leaves any room. I follow her down the stairs and see her say her goodbye's to dad then she leaves. Dad walks up the stairs and his peaceful expression slowly morphs into a enraged one as he throws the vase like he did before I left. Only thing different is instead of it hitting the wall, it hits me. I fall to the ground unconscious. But that wasn't surprising, what surprised me was almost as soon as my head hit the ground and my eyes closed they shot back open. Instead of my eyes being their normal hazel they were an icy blue.
I didn't know what was going on. After my eyes changed I stood up and my father looked slightly shocked. He stepped back and looked horrified at me. But I still didn't understand what was happening.
" Get away from me you freak!" Freak? What's wrong with me.
"You're gonna regret, what you did." I pick my head up to look at him and his body slams against the wall and shattering the picture frame of dad, mom and I as he slides down. I walk out of the door and smirk.
-End of Dream-
I wake up in a cold sweat and look at the time. 5:20 a.m. Might as well go on a run, haven't done that in a while. I use to be really into running but then dad started restricting where I could go and when. Running was always therapeutic to me, when I had a lot on my mind, running and looking around at the scenery would help. I go wipe my face, change and write a note telling my grandparents where I was going and stuck it on my door. Then I made my way quietly down the stairs, out the house and ran around the neighborhood for a little. I was passing an alley when I heard a yell. I decided to go back slowly and not make any noise. I peeked around the corner and saw this man. It looked like he had fangs and he was covered in blood. He had veins under his eyes and his eyes looked crimson red. It was animalistic, they way he acted. I was stuck in place until he dropped the lady and in a black of an eye he was gone. That's when my legs decided to work.
"Hey, stay with me." I stuck one hand in my pocket and called 911. Then tore off the sleeve of my jacket and placed it to her neck.
"I need an ambulance at the corner of Basin Street and Royal Road. There is a woman here in an alley, she has bleeding puncture wounds in her neck. She is losing a lot of blood." My old school had a medical program, where you could learn basic medical procedures and terms. That's why I knew so much about this situation.
Sadly the am balance didn't make it here in time. I was wiping the blood off of my hands with a bleach wipe when the police came and questioned me.
"What happened" One of the officers ask me
"I was on a run when I heard someone yell. I ran to the alley and found her like this, then called you guys."
"Thank you ma'am, I'm sorry you had to witness this." I nod and they let me on my way home. The whole jog home I just thought about everything, the dream, the man and the lady. My mind was so puzzled, I felt so many different things in that moment and not any of them were good. I was confused and worried about the dream, scared about the mystery man and I was sympathetic about the lady's family. They were going to have to bury their family and I could have saved her if I didn't freeze. I could have saved her.
