[ Seraphina's POV ]

"Is this the book of darkness you mentioned?" I asked Graike.

"Open it," Graike said impatiently, his greedy eyes didn't leave the book.

"I can't." I even thought it was fake at that time. "Can you give it a try?"

Graike took the book and flipped it back and forth and then groaned in frustration. "I can't open it, but she can." He extended his hand with the book to Kiera. "Pour some of your energy in here."

A small wisp of shadow came out of Kiera's head and landed on the black leather. The book shook and then…

'POP!'

With a sound like someone opened a champagne bottle, the binding gave in, and the book was open.

"Here," Graike said while pushing the book into my hands.

I was surprised he gave it back so easily. "You don't want to read it?"

"Do you think it's that easy? The book decides who will read it."
