Void Teacher

"Sir Chugum, huh? So, what do you want? I'm sure you have a reason for showing yourself to me.", Beta asked while carefully watching Chugum's reaction.

"You're quite rude considering that you know I'm much stronger, aren't you? Oh well, youth these days... I thought that it's rare to meet someone like me so I wanted to offer my help and guide you a bit."

"Like you? Just how am I like you, Sir Chugum? And how are you going to help and guide me?", Beta asked curiously, showing more interest this time.

"Isn't it obvious? We're both of the same feather. Also, can you please stop with the Sir Sir? Just Chugum is fine."

"Eh… Okay then, Chugum. Why are you talking in riddles? Are you saying that you are my relative or that you have void power? Well, I can definitely exclude the first option so it looks like you're a Void Elementalist as well.", Beta said while scrunching his eyebrows.

"Oh? Looks like you're very sure about the first option. But you're right, I'm a Void Elementalist as well. We're so rare that you could say we're almost extinct. Because of that, I'm offering some help to you. I can heal you up in no time and teach you a thing or two about the void. Firstly, I could teach you how to create your personal space and how to manage it. After that comes storing and, of course, bringing back whatever you stored. I can also give you some pointers on teleportation and such, but I doubt you'll be able to use that knowledge anytime soon. Those are the most elementary things you have to know about the void element. It's what truly lets you be above many others. The ability to store items alone is so great that many people would kill to get it. Just imagine the efficiency of having it. You can carry hundreds of monster corpses and keep them fresh at all times while others can only carry parts of one. The difference in money making speed is enormous too. It can also be used in fights to surprise your opponent. Of course, the teleportation isn't any less important. So, now tell me, do you wish to learn from me?", Chugum asked with a confident smirk, as if he knew the answer already.

"Do you expect anything in return? How long will it take?", Beta said with a straight face, looking as if not tempted at all.

"Heh, such an interesting boy. I didn't expect you to still ask questions. Others would've already jumped in no matter what it takes but you're certainly odd. Well, I don't expect anything from you in return for now, but if I ever need help, and you're strong enough, I'd like you to give a helping hand in the future. As for how long it will take me to teach you? Hmm… depending on how fast you learn, I will teach you for a few days or so."

"Sounds feasible to me. Alright, I agree. Do you know voidweaving techniques as well?", Beta asked while tilting his face in wonder. He intended to research it completely by himself in order to not get influenced by others, but that would mean that he would make the same mistakes as the ones before him. So, he chose to get the foundation or at least some tips. After that, he can still improve his foundation to be sturdier and change its contents for his own needs. He already had something in mind which he could use all that for.

"I only know a thing or two about it but I can teach you that. Just that, you might not be able to remember everything in such a small amount of time.", Chugum answered with a raised eyebrow. He had not expected Beta to want to study on so many fields within such a small timeframe.

"I see! That's enough for me.", Beta was hyped hearing his answer for he has been looking forward to learning more about voidweaving ever since he heard of it.

"First off, before we start though, I need to ask you what you know about the void element and what you're capable of doing with it at the moment.", Chugum asked, his expectations not very high. He knew how rare the knowledge about this element was. Especially so, within such a deserted place like this.

"I know that teleportation is possible. There's also a personal space that can be created. Voidweaving lets us create bags that have their own personal space in it.", Beta answered with a straight face.

"That's pretty much what I said just now, isn't it?"

"That's correct."

"…"

"…"

"… Okay, I will simply tell you what I know.", Chugum said while picking up a rock.

"This, and everything else that you can see here consists of matter. The void that we wield is different. Its density of matter is so low that you may just as well think of it as emptiness. But this is not entirely true and you should definitely never underestimate the power of the void. Once you're strong enough, you will be able to create wormholes by the use of exotic matter, which only a void element is able to accomplish. This is our means of teleporting. There is matter, black matter, antimatter, dark matter, dark energy and exotic matter. Of these different kinds of matter, exotic matter is the only thing that has a negative mass. The others have a positive one and therefore attract each other. Exotic matter is negative, thus repulsive. As long as you grasp how to use it, you could travel wherever you want within seconds. Some even say that time can be warped by our powers as well. But currently, I have no knowledge of that. Anyway, for now, the most important thing for you to know is that, the void element has a lot to offer and if you mess up too hard… you might die. I can't really say much about the others either since no one actually knows anything about it. There are some theories, but in the end, those are just theories. The more you accumulate knowledge about the void, the more complicated it will get, so be patient and start from the very basics. Now, we should start with your lessons.", Chugum said, looking at Beta proudly.

Beta felt a headache appearing. "He told me what's inside of the void, but he can't tell me any specifics? What's the use of this knowledge then? Well, at least I have names for whatever is inside the void element.", Beta thought, with a sparkle in his eyes, obviously excited. Even if he didn't get to know many new things, it's a fact that he learned something about his power and that its potential is limitless. As long as he gets to research it thoroughly, he will become unimaginably strong.

" I only have to remember it for now, right? I can still learn it afterward if I don't have enough time. So, what are we going to start with?", Beta said with impatient eyes. He wanted to learn as much as possible and not waste even a single second of the time they had left.

"Tsk…cheeky brat. I just told you to be patient and here you are, can't even let this old man take a breather. Anyway, since you don't have much time to learn, I guess we should start with your own personal space. I saw that you already achieved a great level of soulpower control by being able to emit soulpower not limited to one body part. This is actually crucial for you to be able to learn the things I'm about to teach you. So, you're actually making it easy for me by already having that skill. Creating your own personal space as a void elementalist is actually the easiest thing to do for a beginner. Just simply imagine a cube floating around within nothingness. Picture it properly as you build up a connection to it and feel the empty space within. Once you've accomplished that and made a vivid picture of it, you can then experiment by putting something inside it. I recommend starting from small objects then slowly replace it with something bigger every time you succeed. But before you start, swallow this pill. No worries, I'm not poisoning you.", Chugum explained slowly.

Beta sniffed the pill once then put it in his mouth and swallowed it whole. This surprised Chugum, but seeing Beta as a straightforward, smart kid, he didn't think much of it. Beta then closed his eyes and followed his instructions meticulously. He thought of an endless black expanse and used his soulpower to form a cube. He didn't know how it was possible for his soulpower to reach a place he had just randomly imagined and asked himself where it took form.

Though confused, he still followed the instructions without a hitch. He ripped off a piece of his clothing and engulfed it in his void elemental soulpower, all the while thinking of the cube he had just created. Suddenly, it appeared inside the cube. Only now did he find out that the cube he created was a very small one. "How odd yet interesting…", thought Beta who somehow got too engrossed with the result. He then decided to use all his soulpower to see if there will be changes in size. According to his deductions, it should be that way, otherwise, it would be a matter of how to manipulate the soulpower instead.

After accumulating all of his soulpower, he slowly poured his soulpower and finally managed to expand its size to one cubic meter. Although it still wasn't that much, it still made him very happy. His guess was right on the mark! In such a short amount of time, he had grasped the ability to create his own personal space with no difficulty. Beta then opened his eyes and noticed that all the wounds on his body had healed. He nodded as if he had expected such an outcome and then looked at Chugum. What he saw was a middle-aged man with his mouth wide open.

"You succeeded? Already? It's only been a few hours!", Chugum asked, gobsmacked.

"It actually took that long?", Betas asked back, frowning hard. He had hoped that it would only take a few minutes, but so much time had already passed! He couldn't help but feel a wave of disappointment well up inside him. "Such a simple thing actually took me that long to finish...", Beta sulkily mumbled.

Chugum didn't know what to say anymore. It took him a whole week to finish it and he was already called a genius! Seeing this oddball in front of him, it rekindled his spirit and swore himself to turn this bud into the strongest flower humanity has ever seen.

"Ehem! Alright... Since you managed to finish early with creating your own personal space, we'll proceed with empowering your arrow. Shorten the length of your arrow and increase its density. For some other elements, length may be good, but with ours, it doesn't really matter much. As soon as the arrowhead touches the surface of something, it will disappear instantly without using the arrow's full strength. However, if you use a small arrow, its power will be released much more efficiently.

"This also is considered being easy, but its effect is much better than a normal arrow's nonetheless.", Chugum said in one breath.

Beta perked up with this new knowledge so he didn't hesitate as he willed out his soulpower and formed his usual arrow. He then shrunk it more and more without taking back any of his soulpower. In the beginning, he wasn't able to compress it properly as it only got thicker, but as he got a feeling for it, he became more proficient in it and succeeded in creating a small, thin arrow. It may not seem impressive but the aura it emitted was a whole lot different from the one before. It felt like it was at least doubled in strength, thus, impressing Beta. He looked at Chugum who looked at him as if nothing happened.

"Was I too slow? His expression looks as if nothing unusual happened, and he even looks a bit disappointed... I should put more effort into learning from him. If I'm not outstanding, I'll stay mediocre forever...", Beta thought, his mind filled with even more determination.

Chugum, on the other hand, was astounded yet again. "He actually finished it so fast again! This kid is a monster! I'm not turning that bud into a flower... I'm turning it into a ravenous hydra! But if I tell him, he might slack off with his training which is a big no-no. I'll just show him a slightly disappointed face so that he will be even more impressive. Oooh, I cannot wait to see how strong he will get in the future. Kekekeke… Teaching that lad may have been the best choice I have ever made in my entire life!", Chugum thought while looking a bit bored.

"You're finally done? Alright, it's time to start with the next lesson then!"

Another chapter involving Chugum arrives! Since I didn't post anything on Monday, this chapter is a long one. If you like this novel and want to support it or just want to immortalize yourself in it, you can consider visiting my patreon!
