The Songs Only I Hear

!!ANNOUNCEMENT!! - I will have slightly worse upload schedule during the summer, due to a lot of vacations my family and I have planed. I'm only human, I need my breaks too! Thank you for understanding, and to those who are following this series, please don't be alarmed when I miss a few upload dates. My approximate timing will probably slow, to every 4 - 7 days. I know. It's bad. This however, is the only way I can post, while spending time with my family. I will go back to regular uploads by the end of the summer. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Being blind is just how Lucus sees the world. Nothing seems to be wrong with this. After growing up in an orphanage, he takes his first steps into a real school when he enters high school. Making friends, and changing the world. They both seem to be equally hard. While he might not be able to see, the world feels more blind to him, than he is to them. Gonna be really honest here. I don't have a great upload schedule. I'm a bit too lazy for that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Uploads every 2 - 3 days. Sometimes I might do 2 at a time if I'm feeling productive. I wish I could say I'm going to make this the best book you'll ever read, but I'm still very amateur. Give me a chance, however, and I promise to surprise you. This is a tale of friendship, a bit of romance, overcoming life's obstacles, and working hard to surpass them. Join Lucus, Ben, and Allicia in their quest to find, or make, a life of their own. Thank you for reading, hope you enjoy. ; )

"I won't ask you."

Lucus now entered the hallway full of karaoke rooms. These were all identical. They were also in the last hallway on his floor. Ben hadn't texted yet, so Lucus was beginning to worry. He pressed a button on his phone and it read out the time he had left. Eight minutes, and twenty one seconds. Eight minutes to find Allicia. His speech was important. Huge. This would be a major milestone in his personal growth, but shouldn't finding Allicia be much more important? Could he really live with himself if he decided to selfishly choose himself over Allicia, then learn she got hurt in some way? He began to walk faster. He was going to find Allicia, and get back with a good hunk of time to spare. This wasn't a problem, and Allicia was safe. Lucus knocked on door after door, and put his ear up to them. However, in each of the rooms, he heard nothing.

Allicia stood, panting in the dark over two unconscious boys, both of whom were much larger than her. She had one more pinned up against the wall. He was scared, but looked quite delirious at the same time. They all didn't look as though they were going to be able to remember anything of the events that night. Allicia was sober now, and felt nauseous. She dropped the boy whose shirt she grasped in her bloody hands. Only most of the blood was hers. She ran to the corner and threw up. She gasped, clutching to the wall and leaning over her mess, before unwrapping a new lollipop. (hers had fallen out in the massacre) Allicia stood up straight once more and turned to the last goon. He had a lot of blood all over him, some was his, and some was the others. They all looked in terrible shape. Allicia hid her face, as he seemed to be sobering up.

She waited for a bit for him to pass out too, and walked towards the pile, stepping into a fluorescent light. The other two girls had left in a mix of terror and thankfulness, promising to keep the night a secret. In the light, you could see the state Allicia was in. She was covered in blood. Some were in her hair. Her lip was cracked and bleeding, and her knuckles were raw and bloody. Her band aids were also peeling off. Allicia rummaged around in her pockets, passing by a few more strawberry lollipops, before grabbing a handful of fresh band-aids.

Her dress didn't show any stains. There were no tears in the surprisingly durable dress, and the black either hid the blood, or she just didn't get any on it. Allicia's shoes were black too, so those didn't show it either. Her feet did ache though, so she took them off and slung them over her shoulder by the straps.

Allicia just sat there for a second, catching her breath before looking around the room. It was a mess, to put it lightly. Calling it that would have been a huge understatement. Drinks were soaking every part of it, and the floor was more glass than floor. One of the disco balls was rolling around on the floor, the table was broken, and so was the karaoke screen. The couches were torn up and there was blood staining a few of the pillows. Somehow, they even managed to put a hole in the walls. Not only this, but there was a considerable amount of puke littered around the ground.

She delicately stepped around it, and picked up all three of the boys by the collar of their shirt. They were heavy, and Allicia was most definitely not at her strongest, so she had to drag them out. They couldn't see the karaoke room when they woke up, or they might remember. It was best to keep them away for at least an hour or so. Allicia unlocked the door and slowly dragged them out and over to the chairs, where she placed each of them one by one on the cushioned couches. Thankfully, there was nobody there. It was practically deserted. Well, there actually was somebody. One person. One very familiar face, and that was Lucus.

Lucus whipped around when he heard a door opening, and was immediately hit by the rancid, dangerous scent of blood. Blood always meant trouble. He was about to hide, run, or call for help, but then he smelled something more familiar. Allicia. Lucus couldn't stop himself. He sprinted over and put his hand on Allicia's shoulder. Allicia spun around, ready to fight, before jumping back in recognition.

"Allicia! What the heck are you doing here?! And why is there blood all over the place?!!? Are you okay?!" Lucus touched her lip worriedly where he smelled the most blood. "We need to get you cleaned up." He grabbed her by the hand without a second thought and dragged her to the girl's restroom.

It was bright and welcoming in the bathroom, and you could tell it was only meant for high society. So far, Allicia was in such shock that she couldn't comprehend what was happening, and was unable to speak a word. What was Lucus doing here? Lucus wasn't very strong, but he still picked her up and placed Allicia on the sink counter. He grabbed a paper towel and began dabbing her cuts.

"Wha- what are you doing? This is the girl's bathroom." Stupid. She knew it too. Who cares if it's the girl's bathroom if she was just found covered in blood, dragging three more much bloodier boys out of a karaoke room? This could have been from alcohol, but Allicia had never felt more sober. Lucus continued working diligently, wiping away blood. He didn't respond for a bit.

"We were looking for you, you know. Oh shoot, brace yourself. This might sting." He poured a bit of hand soap on a deep cut on her foot from the glass. He didn't say anything else for a few minutes, and neither did Allicia. They both seemed unsure of what to say. Lucus spoke suddenly. "I won't ask you." When he didn't elaborate, Allicia spoke up meekly. It was hard to believe that it was her own voice. The Allicia that Lucus always knew was always so upbeat. So brave.

"Ask me what?" She looked down at the cuts she had, newly revealed by the comfortingly warm towelette. Lucus took a deep breath, then opened his mouth to reply.

"What happened. You don't need to tell me. I won't tell anyone else either." He paused his work and looked up at her. He might not have seen anything, but this was Lucus's way of showing he meant something. "Some things are other's business. I don't know exactly what you do at home, or who you might be trying to hide, so I won't ask. If you don't want to tell me, then don't tell me." He smiled warmly, before continuing his delicate work.

"I won't ask you" felt so heartbreaking to write, for some reason. It wasn't sad, nor was it truly happy. It just felt heartbreaking in some unexplainable way. It felt kind and warm to write, and I don't know how to explain it. However, I doubt anyone could truly put it into words.
