CHAPTER 27: The Advisor Part 1

Present…

Kingdom of Damascus

Adeline, the knights, and Prince Kael were welcomed to the castle of Damascus. They intended to pay their respect to the new king of the kingdom.

They were sent to the castle hall and asked to wait patiently for the new king who was addressing his people.

Adeline found it odd, it was still raining and yet the king was busy addressing the people in the rain. "Does he not care for the people?" she whispered to herself.

The door swung open and finally, the new king was able to welcome them in person.

He kept stealing glances at Adeline while having a short conversation with Prince Kael.

He brushed his fingers on his back and led him to a seat beside him. The prince so naive and gentle followed obediently.

The knights and Adeline stood behind him as he took his seat.

The new King

(Teasing)

"You must be a pampered prince, seeing how your knights protect you"

The prince smiled and said "Actually it's the opposite, they see me as the child who needs protection while I am not"

They both laughed at his response.

The new King

(Softly)

"You must be tired from traveling in the rain all night just to visit the new king, who might not live up to your expectations"

Prince Kael

(Defend)

"Never say such a thing, you are a wise king, I know it. And you don't have to worry about the rain, it might be a sign of good luck"

They kept amusing themselves when suddenly the door opened and a tall, well-built, handsome, and blond long-haired man in armor entered.

He bowed to the new king and Prince Kael.

"Good day my king, I have come back with good news"

A smile appeared at the corners of his lips which Adeline and Amos noticed and found odd.

He finally looked up and locked eyes with Adeline. He couldn't look away and kept staring at her which made her uncomfortable.

Adeline

(Questioned)

"Is there something on my face?"

"No but you look familiar" he snapped, indicating he had remembered who Adeline was.

"You must be the silver-haired demon people are afraid of" he laughed after saying that.

Adeline controlled herself not to engage and so she kept her mouth and fist closed.

The blond man walked towards his king and whispered something into his ear.

Suddenly they started giggling at each other. Unbeknownst to Adeline, the knights, and the king, Prince Kael wasn't pleased with how the blond-haired man spoke to Adeline.

He glared at both the new king and the blond-haired man. His facial expression made them flinch and position themselves.

Prince Kael

(Serious and annoyed)

"You crossed the line, speaking such words towards my knight. Apologize"

The blond man was unable to grasp what was going on. "It seems you didn't understand my statement, Apologize or this kingdom will just have to find a new king"

He stared at his king who signaled him to do as he was told. He immediately knelt and apologized.

"I apologize for my mannerisms, it won't happen again"

Amos and the knight held their head high, they were proud of their prince who stood up for Adeline. Unfortunately, Adeline wasn't that pleased, she felt it was unnecessary, threatening a king in his kingdom may serve as an act of war

And she noticed the dissatisfaction in the eyes of the new king and so she did what any knight would do for their prince.

Adeline

(Bow)

"Thank you but I am not affected by those words for I have been called many names while protecting the prince of Amira."

Her words came out as an act of appreciation but her knights knew it was a warning to the King.

The king and Adeline fiercely stared at each other. Their gaze sends electrifying charges around them.

The king finally relieved them of the tension between them and said "Pardon me for my advisor's remark, he is quite mischievous but that is more reason I chose him."

Prince Kael

(Startled)

"An advisor? I didn't know of such athing existed"

New king

(Laughed)

"O my prince, are you perhaps serious with what you are saying"

He noticed the prince not laughing along with him.

"So you are serious about not knowing about it."

"Yes," Prince Kael responded.

The new King

(Explains)

"Every king or prince needs an advisor. Your father had an advisor once but died while protecting him."

Prince Kael

(Surprised)

"My father had an advisor you say but he hasn't spoken to me about having an adv…., he was interrupted by Adeline.

"The king was waiting for the right time to inform you about that matter Prince Kael"

Prince Kael stared at Adeline with a forced smile and then turned to look at the new King.

Prince Kael

"Hector, you are the new king of Damascus and there are many responsibilities you have to shoulder. I wish you all the luck in this kingdom and may the gods guide you"

King Hector smiled in response to his beautiful words towards him.

King Hector

(Offered)

"Due to the rain, it may be impossible to travel this late so I insist you stay for the night and travel back at sunset tomorrow"

Prince Kael

(Fluttered)

"You are right about that Hector. I will take your offer, It's still pouring and my knights are tired from the trip"

Hector called a few maids to escort the prince and the knights to their respective rooms.

Adeline being the lady occupied one room whilst the knights shared a room. She hesitated to accept the room for she wouldn't mind sharing the room with the knights.

More importantly, it was closer to the prince's room. A few minutes passed and Adeline took to her heels and visited the room of the prince.

She knocked and announced her presence and he permitted her to enter.

Prince Kael

(Surprised)

"Why are you in my room at this hour Adeline?"

Adeline

"We need to talk"

Kael

"Talk! About what?"

Adeline

"It's about you defending me in front of the new king, Prince Kael. You were not supposed to do so. I am your knight but in the eyes of royalty I am nobody, so please refrain from doing such things next time"

Kael

(Frown)

"You came to me at this hour to scold me for defending my knight? I may be a prince and do not have enough power to command or defend anyone but that doesn't mean I am stupid enough not to know when someone is mocking or threatening the people closest to me.

Do not tell me what to do and what not to do Adeline. I didn't just defend you but also showed my authority so they won't do anything upsetting."

Adeline

(Upset)

"Exactly my point, you didn't just defend me but naively showed your authority which could have ended badly

It clearly showed you were at war with him and with the excuse of him disrespecting me"

Kael felt her anger, he had never seen her upset or spoke harshly towards him before and that made him angry and sad.

He had a lot to say but decided to keep it in and said a few words.

Prince Kael

(Sad)

"I understand, since you are done you can leave now"

Adeline

(Sighed)

"I am not done. As for the advisor role, your father has been working on it and soon you will have an advisor. I am done, I will take my leave.

She left without looking back and he fell on his bed and closed his eyes.

They left the kingdom the next day at sunset as they had scheduled. King Hector and his knights bid them farewell and gifted them a few things for their journey.

King Hector sat on his throne with a frown as he stared at the door. He clenched his fist and sighed heavily.

His advisor who stood on his left side, felt his anger and flinch.

King Hector

(Upset)

"I knew he was a pampered child but never did I imagine him being a cunning man who could threaten me in my kingdom."

The advisor with a trembling voice responded "Y-yes, I was quite surprised"

King Hector

(Ordered and yelled)

"Silence! You told me the bandits were skilled enough to take them all but I saw them alive, dine with them and they dared to threaten me huh"

"I-I am sorry my King, I swear on the gods that I picked the best fighters in the Kingdom but it seems we underestimated them" the advisor tried to explain.

King Hector

(Angry)

"You fool, of course we underestimate them, but it's all good. It seems he wasn't aware of the advisory role.

(Ordered)

"Go and find someone on our side to be his advisor now"

"You don't have to worry about that my king, We have chosen the best person to do that and he is on his way to the Kingdom"

King Hector

(Smiled)

"Good"

A sinister smile appeared at the corners of his lips and he stood up and exhaled.

As nightfall knocks on the doors of the people of Damascus. A fiercely looking man rode on his horse amid the darkness towards the Kingdom of Amira.

"Yaaaah"...
