As soon as Myata saw me, she ran toward me with her arms wide open for a big hug. A small smile played on my lips as I knelt down and accepted her hug, patting her head. Karma, however, seemed uneasy, like the place was giving her the creeps. Which I could understand – with that giant thing floating in the air, how could she be at ease? I'd be on my guard too.
She walked up to me, gestured for Myata to go back behind her, and crossed her arms. She had a neutral expression, but I could feel her eyes stinging me. I had told them I'd be back, but a lot of things had happened, and I wasn't able to honor my promise…
"What took so long?" she asked, her tone sharp. "I thought you'd be –"
"I know," I cut in, shaking my head. "I'm sorry. Lots of things happened, but it's okay. I have a better plan. A safer plan."
"What plan?" Karma pressed, her eyes narrowing.
