To Die A Traitor

Halfway down the hall and we were stopped. Fang had waited patiently down the hall after we left the office. He looked at me like he wanted to discuss something. I looked at Nena.

"Give us a sec?" I asked her as I left her side to follow Fang down the hall and away from her ear-shot. Fang took my arm as he pushed me up against the wall and moved into my full sight. He cleared his throat as he looked me in the eyes.

"What happened to you?" He asked as he looked at my stomach and was obviously hurt by something. "Was she the cause?" He asked in anger as he touched my stomach. I wanted to flinch at his touch. But in his eyes I only felt safe as I looked into them. So I let him touch me.

"It's a long story, Alpha Fang." I wanted to catch him up. But he's got a long journey to take to the west neighboring pack.

"I can't leave without hearing it," he muttered. "It'll give me a reason to come back faster."

I sighed.

"Well when you get back I'll tell it to you," I muttered and blushed. I heard the door down the hall open. It was the one to the office. My parents walked out of it. I pushed his hand back as I looked towards them. Oh shit, I should let dad know about Niall so he will keep an eye out for him on the border patrol.

"Fang you should hear this," I told him and took his hand. I pulled him towards my father as I tried to catch up to them walking down the other way. "D-dad!" I yelled and stopped him in his tracks.

Nena sort of awkwardly followed. I'm sure she was worried about her future if she helped me with setting Donovan free. We haven't explained to anyone yet that he's innocent and Niall is actually the bad guy. At least she was better about keeping her mouth shut. I didn't have to explain everything just yet to her. She was so easy going with leading me where I wanted to go. I let Fang go as I remembered he's still a stranger to me. Another thing I would be greatful for Nena keeping her mouth shut about- her seeing us this close.

I looked at my dad as I huffed out of breath. I had rushed to him so fast.

This was going to be important for them to know.

"There's something you need to know."

"What?"

"Niall has been working with Lamia this whole time."

"What? How do you know?"

My father's face was full of confusion as he tried to think on what I just told him. He was still processing it.

"Because, he's the one that set me up to be kidnapped. I've been hearing his phone calls he's made with Lamia and she's told me herself. I just wanted to let you know we will be announcing it soon. You should pay special attention to your surroundings out there on the border," I warned.

Fang growled beside me and I looked at him in alarm.

"My own decendent," he growled in disbelief. "How could he be so selfish?"

"He's not who we thought he was," I muttered.

"I only hope the moon goddess will have mercy on my boy," my father muttered. "Maybe he's under that siren's spell."

I wish father were right.

"I'm going to set Donovan free," I told them. "Nena is taking me there now."

"There's evidence pointing at him," Fang muttered to me.

"It's a set up," I reassured. "I can sit around here trying to explain how I know but I'd rather be letting an innocent man go." I looked them over as they nodded. Right now I can't give them details.

"We'll discuss this when I get back," Fang told me. "And no avoiding it."

"I'll get the full explaination tonight," my father decided. "Go set that poor innocent man free. You'll be making his family happy."

I was about to turn and walk away when dad grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him. "Alpha Brendon sat Donovan up on trail at the pack meeting while you were still missing. The evidence we pulled against him was enough to have him executed on spot. But, he instead put it off. Donovan is downstairs in the holding cells. No one is allowed to see him but you should have high enough clearence as Luna." He left me with that as he walked off with my mom. Fang glanced at me before walking away as well.

I'm going to need a diary to keep up with my brother's bullshit.

Everyone in the pack must think Donovan is the traitor. But it's Niall. We'll need to call another pack meeting to redeam him.

Finding Donovan's holding cell was hard. But not impossible. Nena took me to the prison we held in the underground tunels below the pack house. It was dark like a cave and impossible to navigate alone. This was because of the anchient spells casted on the tunels. No-one could travel it alone. You had to use a buddy system. It was to prevent prisoners from escaping.

On the way, Nena quietly voiced her distaste for finding out Niall was the one behind Malakai's kidnapping. Which lead me to explain he's also behind mine. Once it was said, she nodded as it just made sense to her.

There were two guards when we reached the prison's level. I didn't know their faces. But, Nena seemed to recognize them.

"Atlas~! Issac! How good to see you," Nena said as we walked up to them. They were standing in the door frame scrolling on their phones. They looked up at us dully before smiling at Nena.

"Look, it's our favorite nurse," one of them teased and elbowed the other.

"So it is!" The other said as he looked up to meet Nena's eyes. Their eyes turned to me before they kneeled and looked slightly alarmed.

"Good evening Luna," they both said in union. I wasn't use to it.

"I need to see the prisoner Donovan," I told them to get straight down to business. "I'm here to release him."

"Y-you can't do that. Can she do that?" He asked his partner.

"I don't know..."

"I can. Alpha Brendon will tell everyone soon that he's innocent. He wasn't the real culprit. It was my brother, Niall. We'll explain it soon enough, but for now I would like to offer an apology to Donovan for his trouble."

"Yes ma'am. We will lead you to his cell," they said and turned around before walking me down the hallway. Nena followed behind me quietly. I'm sure she was still debating if this was a good idea. I know it's hard for them to understand. And, without Niall being right here to admit he was the culprit it's way harder. But I am the pack's Luna and I'm pratically as important as the alpha. My word is full of as much authority as Brendon's can be.

"His family haven't been down to see him today," one of the two noted quietly to make small talk.

"Lilith and Destery?" Nena asked as she seemed to recall Lilith's brother's name better than I could. I guess they're ashamed of their father. Anyone would be- I suppose. Brendon must have delayed his execution until the full moon- or after. He doesn't have time to watch an exectution with the drama happening. The holding cells are secure anyways. So there's no worries about rather or not he will escape.

"Yeah. I wouldn't want to see my father if he was acussed of pack treason," I muttered. Luckily, my father is all for protecting and caring for this pack. He would never...

"Sometimes you just don't know a guy," one of the two guards said. "But, at least there is some new proof to clear his name," he said with optimism in his voice.

"Sorry about your brother," the other blurted out and elbowed his partner.

"Yeah, sorry luna. Beta Niall seemed like a real good guy all this time. Who would know?"

We grew silent as we made it to a door that had Donovan's name on a clip board. There was a window to look into the room and one of the guards peered in. He stepped back suddenly and looked at us.

"Uh, Atlas," he whispered quietly.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"What??" Atlas asked as he pushed him aside to look in. "...SHIT." Atlas looked back at us before frowning. "Luna can you wait out here. Nena, come in with me." Issac opened the door and the two walked in. Issac stood in my way from going in.

"What's going on?" I asked again with more authority in my voice.

I heard Nena gasp and I tensed up.

Oh shit.

Nena walked back out with tears in her eyes and I looked her down questionably.

"Tell me what's going on," I begged.

"Vivie, he commited suicide," she whispered.

I moved past them quickly as I rushed them. I made it past Issac's arms and when I got into the room I gasped. Atlas grabbed me before I could step into a puddle of blood. I checked over the room as I spotted Donovan in the floor.

There was a screw in his hand. The smell of fresh blood made me want to puke. The bed was thrown everywhere and it looked like he took the rails apart trying to find a loose screw. He must have gone insane in here. Maybe his wolf got to him- convinced him to do it. I put a hand over my mouth as I was dragged out of the room. Issac was already on the phone calling someone. I moved from Atlas' arms to Nena's as I held onto her.

T-this is all...

Because of Lamia.

"How long do you think he was in there?" Atlas asked Issac softly.

It smelled bad and rotton. The fresh stench of death leaked out of the room and made my nose wrinkle up. I slammed the door shut. i wanted to growl. Because Niall let his father in law take the fall. Lilith's father is dead because he carelessly pointed fingers at him- to save his own throat.

"What a monster," I mumbled as I thought about my brother. "He's as good as dead to me now," I muttered.

"Who?" Nena asked.

"Niall," I mumbled. "This could have been prevented."

I looked at Issac as he seemed to be talking to someone and then I realized he had called Brendon.

"Yeah, we just found him." Isaac muttered into the phone. "We better call his family and let them know."

"Just give them a call and tell them to come to my office," Brendon ordered. "Clean up the mess and have Nena show you to the morgue. We will ask Destery and Lilith what to do with his body. It'll be up to them."

"Yes, Alpha."

Brendon hung up on them.

Atlas looked at me before frowning.

"You should leave. This is no place for our Luna," he told me softly. "We can deal with this."

I frowned as I didn't like the way he talked to me. But he was right. I didn't need to be here anymore. I wouldn't be helpful right now and I didn't want to see it any longer. I nodded as I turned around and went back down the hall. I think I can find my way out on my own.
