Chapter 3

Layla

A black McLaren convertible stopped right outside our gate while we were pushing the last of our heavy suitcases through the wooden door. A very tall and pale boy with curly brown hair stepped out of the passenger seat. Sharp jaws, brown eyes and a mocking smile on his face. He reminded me of one of the football jocks from our previous school. Cherry. I smiled, knowing well that nobody could see it under the mask. It was amusing that the typical high school popular guy smelled of cherries. Tristan Fitzgerald. It's not surprising that I remember. We were best friends once upon a time after all.

I was gazing towards the car when I felt a pull. And then the reason for my discomfort stepped out. He exuded power and my wolf could feel the Alpha pull. The power made me want to bow in respect, as I could see my siblings do, but not submitting to anybody else was my rule and therefore I held my head high and looked away. The scent of pine wood and forest wafted towards me and I involuntarily licked my lips. They all had their heads bowed. My wolf scoffed. "His wolf wants submission "she whispered. I looked over to meet his gaze. Long black hair wrapped into a man bun and rippling muscles, Dark green eyes and an arrogant smirk. He was beautiful. Not even kidding. He looked as expensive as his car did. I looked away as soon as his eyes landed on me.

"Josh my friend" Tristan did the "bro-hug", while the Alpha looked around as if the rest of the world was beneath him somehow. "Long time Tris" Josh looked excited, as did Rose. "Alpha Caspian" Josh looked over to his former best friend. "Not an Alpha yet, Josh", Caspian came over and they hugged like long lost friends.

"These are my sisters, as you might know, Rose and Layla". Caspian looked over to us and a ghost of smile appeared on his face while Tristan, like the excited side-kick puppy he was, beamed wide and flashed his cute dimples. "Why is she wearing a mask? "That came from Tristan. "Because she wants to." Rose bit out. My sister can be very protective sometimes. She thinks it'll hurt my feelings if somebody (other than her, obviously) talked about my illness or the need to wear a mask. But that's not really true. I can handle a few questions. Doesn't stop my siblings from treating me like a glass doll that would break if pushed too hard.

"Careful there, little girl, you don't want to make enemies out of the wrong people in this town" Tristan smirked, while Rose scowled and pouted. He looked into my eyes and I could feel my heart skip a beat. I looked over to Caspian, while Tristan and Rose threw barbs back and forth. His mouth was a tight line. I'm not sure if I'm imagining this, but he looked mildly disappointed. As if he was expecting something out of somebody.
