After finishing the video and checking for any omissions, Chu Lian clicked on her platform's backend, uploaded the video, and then stretched. Sitting in the same position for too long had made her uncomfortable.
Chu Lian rubbed her slightly sore eyes. She had gotten too engrossed again and lost track of time. Hopefully, it wasn't too late, or she would be exhausted tomorrow.
Seeing that the video had started uploading, Chu Lian glanced at the bottom right corner of the computer screen to check the time. It was already 7:27 PM. She turned to look out the window and saw the distant lights casting a colorful glow into the night.
Turning back to her bedside table, she saw a bowl of steaming ginseng soup and a plate of various dishes. It was clear that her mother had come in to call her for dinner but, seeing that she was busy, didn't disturb her. Instead, she left some of the dinner for her.
This situation had happened often before. At first, her mother would worry and stay by her side, concerned that she might be sick. Later, as this happened more frequently, her mother understood that whenever Chu Lian was deeply focused, it meant she had something very important to do and would forget about less important matters. So, she stopped interrupting and quietly supported her from the sidelines.
Perhaps it was these moments of warmth that made the initially unfamiliar Chu Lian try to integrate into this world, leading to the heartfelt conversations at the hospital later on.
Thinking of these past events, Chu Lian smiled warmly. No matter how much she changed, she was living in this world as Chu Lian. Now, she had a home, caring parents, and several siblings who, though she didn't see them often, treated her very well.
She opened a gaming section on the platform and searched for a bit, eventually finding a few creators she had liked in the past. Browsing through their content, she saw that although the games they played had changed a lot, they were still among the most popular creators. Their style likely hadn't changed much.
"It seems there really are familiar faces in this world. Famous people and history feel so distant; these creators are the closest connection I have. That's comforting," she said with a nostalgic, relieved smile.
She randomly clicked on a gaming video and then got up to fetch the food. After taking a sip of ginseng soup, she picked up some finely sliced beef with her chopsticks, ate it with a bite of rice, and began to chew slowly.
While eating, she also watched the video she had clicked on, discovering that it was a highlight reel of a competitive game.
"League of Legends? Looks like this world has MOBA games too. I wonder how the heroes are different," she thought, her eyes fixed on the screen, focusing on the various details.
"Turns out, only the competitive mode is similar, but a lot of the content is different. Indeed, no matter how similar this world is, it's still another world," she thought, shaking her head with a bitter smile, feeling both sentimental and sensitive.
She had warned herself many times that this was already another world. But these seemingly familiar yet unfamiliar people and things repeatedly blurred her judgment of the boundaries between the two worlds. There would always be inexplicable moments when she felt that the two worlds should be one. However, this was just an illusion in her daze; all the facts around her indicated that this was a completely different world.
A world she had never heard of; the differences in the history of this world; the absence or alteration of various literary and film works; familiar countries with unfamiliar stories; the emergence of mysterious powers; the dependence on the system; and her current life in this small body, feeling the warmth of this world, all confirmed the real existence of this world.
Thinking about these things, Chu Lian completely lost her appetite. She quickly finished the food on her plate and drank the soup, warming herself.
"Mom's cooking skills could be that of a master chef..." Chu Lian muttered. Unexpectedly, her mother's voice came from behind: "Really? It's been a long time since I've heard you praise my cooking. I'm so happy..."
Before Chu Lian could react, her mother hugged her from behind, her ample chest rubbing against Chu Lian's back, and her soft cheeks nuzzling against Chu Lian's face. She looked very excited.
"Mom! Don't hug me without my permission next time, you almost scared me!" Startled at first, Chu Lian realized it was her mother hugging her. Feeling her mother's affection, she puffed up her cheeks and said somewhat uncomfortably.
"Okay, okay, I'll listen to everything you say. But can you promise me one thing? If you agree, I won't hug you without your permission anymore, alright?" Her mother turned her around, kissed her forehead forcefully, and whispered softly.
"Alright, I'll try to eat on time from now on and not get so busy that I forget to eat. You don't need to worry, okay?" Chu Lian, knowing what her mother wanted to say, quickly agreed.
"You know, what happened these past few days, it's time to bring it to an end. You know how hard I've worked, and I don't want anyone to undermine my efforts. I especially dislike how those people use such despicable means to achieve their goals. If they act like this, I should let them know that sometimes, when they target the wrong person, the only ones who will be embarrassed are themselves..."
Her mother had always supported her and understood that although her daughter looked fragile, she was not someone who would let herself be bullied. If bullied, she would retaliate. This was not being petty, but a form of self-protection.
Regarding this, both her parents and her siblings were very supportive. They did not adhere to the belief of "endure for a moment and the storm will pass, take a step back and the sea will become calm." They could endure losses based on the situation, but they absolutely did not allow their daughter or sister to be wronged without retaliating.
If it had been the previous Chu Lian, due to her kind and gentle nature, she might not have been able to do this. But now, with the system and the memories of her past life, Chu Lian felt no pressure in doing so. Her parents were both relieved and emotional, seeing their daughter grow up through these experiences.
Therefore, her mother did not react negatively to her vengeful tone. Instead, she gently kissed her cheek, then pressed her forehead against Chu Lian's and said softly, "No matter who wants to harm you, I will not let them go."
"If it weren't for your insistence on handling this 'favor' yourself, Starlight Media would have been in chaos by now. With just one word from you, I could make them a pile of garbage everyone despises within a month."
When her mother said this, her tone was very calm, as if she didn't regard Starlight Media, one of China's largest entertainment companies, seriously. Chu Lian knew the reason for this, so she gently squeezed her mother's hand and whispered, "Mom, it's not necessary. I can handle them."
"You taught me that we can endure grievances but must never swallow our anger or be bullied without retaliating. I remember this and will continue to do so, even if the road ahead is difficult..."
"Silly girl, with your mother here, no matter how difficult it gets, it will be okay. As long as you are happy. If one day you really need me, make sure to tell me..." Her mother smiled, understanding Chu Lian's meaning, and left after tidying up.
"Some things can be resolved simply and should be handled simply; there's no need to complicate matters. Moreover, Starlight Media isn't even qualified to be my opponent..." Indeed, Starlight Media had many dirty secrets and various notorious deeds exposed in the media. The reason they hadn't fallen yet was because they had many powerful backers. Chu Lian had a special method to deal with them.
It was just that their usefulness hadn't been fully exhausted yet, which was why she hadn't dealt with them quickly. One could imagine that when the day came when this company had no more benefits to offer, it would disappear from history.
This ability, whether for Chu Lian or anyone else, could quickly dismantle the company if they decided to act without considering the means.
Although the video hadn't finished uploading, Chu Lian didn't just wait idly. She calmly opened a Word document and began typing her response to post in the comments section:
"Slap, slap, slap, slap, slap, slap. Does your face still hurt?" ...
